Rutherford doesn't want or need Aqua's opinion on how to run a team. It's the owner's team, and when has he allowed a rebuilding move or moves? He seems to always want to win now, and will allow a turn over in the roster, but not a purposeful and well planned step back, so we can then (in time) go forward.

Where exactly has that gotten us in the past 10 years? I doubt a person with Rutherford's hockey history would've agreed to come here if it was under someone's leash - it's Jim's way or no way.

Not opposed, but it's another LHD, so it could allow Rathbone to be trade bait to bolster the main roster. I think we need more center depth and a pick would be nice which is why I'd be okay with Hallander and a 2nd.

If we can than I can see accpting bottom six role players. But I'd still hope we get a high end prospect too, who has a ceiling like what Bess has proven to be. Kapanen would be a top 6 RW. His offensive production hasn't been far off Boeser this season and has been better before just as Boeser has been. Boeser has the higher offensive acumen for sure, but Kapanen has PK ability and is probably a 60 point player (although I thought that about Miller when we first acquired him). He was comfortably retired, aquaman flew down to his city, came to his house and pleaded with him to join the Canucks. He didn't give an answer right away, he thought long and hard about it before making his decision. He chose to come here because he has passion for the game, it's all he knows. Definitely not because "he needs work", this isn't Evander Kane with a gambling debt, this is a wealthy old man who loves hockey. Jim left Pittsburgh because the ownership started blocking him from making moves. I have no doubt ghat he would retire in a heartbeat if the aquas started doing the same.

We tried it Aqua’s/JB’s way and that didn’t work. Rutherford was very clear: you can’t be a middling team AND have no cap room. In addition, Rutherford said we are not contenders now, and we are not giving up first round picks because our prospect pool is thin. So, whether Aqua meddled or not, the plan is now pretty clear: clear out expensive contracts for cap room and get prospects and picks back, get faster and younger. I’m on board.

The value in Boeser (or any other skilled player(s) the team trades, is that he makes a difference to a team right away. I like a trade with LA, as they are climbing up the ladder to be a contender and Brock is a perfect fit for their team. A s for the Nucks, contending is 2 or more years away, which gives the gm time for his prospect to develop. I hope the Canucks push to pick up a player like Turcotte, although would probably a straight-up trade. https://thehockeywriters.com/la-kings-prospect-profiles-alex-turcotte/ 'Scouting Report Turcotte is the definition of a complete player. Offensively, he is a fast skater and a great passer. His passing skills pair very nicely with his elite hockey IQ. He is also great positionally and plays the physical game to the best of his ability. Leadership skills and maturity are also aspects of his that can slide under the radar.' Turcotte is currently in the AHL, but will probably make the team next season. He is behind Quentin Byfield, who is already playing in the Kings lineup. In 2-3 years Turcotte will have a permanent role in the top 6, likely 2C on a very good team. Canucks might end including a 1st round pick in one of their trades. Applying that pick, along with the team's pick might get them a high-end selection, that again would take a 2 or 3 year timeline to develop. Provost
I am moving more towards trying to move any of Boeser, Garland, Motte, and Myers at the deadline. Boeser and Motte need to have a final extension offer put in front of them right now with a deadline of a few days from now to sign. If they don’t sign a deal for what the team thinks they can allocate, then trade them regardless of where we are in the standings. Miller is a big deal and unless we get a deal like most people have been taking about… then wait until the draft or summer. There are probably 4-5 contenders with significant interest in him at the deadline. At the draft there will be 20 teams really interested and they will all have a lot more cap space and holes to fill. Horvat deserves a chance to extend in the summer, but also moved on if he won’t sign and wants to “see how next season goes”.

Well comparing to Kane is a bit of an extreme lol. I don't doubt JR's passion for hockey and Aqua's respect for JR. However, unless JR is running a charity show, he took the job because there were financial incentives, and that is a factor just as much as passion. It was a lot of meddling rumor from Aqua previously due to a clash in the bigger direction between him and his management team. Aqua was never pro proper rebuild, and wanted quick retools for a playoff chance each year. If that belief aligns with JR, and was confirmed during their initial conversation, along with JR's previous track record, I don't think Aqua needs to meddle as much. JR will, as I have mentioned previously, have a lot of authority out of respect and his experience. Furthermore, if JR's ultimate goal aligns with Aqua, ie. retooling to always make the playoffs, Aqua will definitely provide a lot of room to JR without interfering. However, as an investor or boss, there is zero chance he doesn't 'diddle' with his business affair. Once again, I'm sure they both agreed on Aqua's bigger direction and JR has the reign to make the immediate moves that aligns with that.

I'd be inclined to keep Motte and Garland........Motte for sure, as they've had a never ending cycle of 4th liners and they've finally found a line that works. That's why they shouldn't be paying Miller and Boeser huge deals because they need to spread the cap around.

His puck skills and skating are as thick as onion paper. Zacha has a better ceiling if given Boesers opportunities. Boudreau would see that. Its the same way Lamikko is being turned into a 2 line C. You're purely speculating here and there's no data or trends to suggest this is the truth. There's likely a reason Zacha isn't playing on the top line or with top players 7 years into his career. Like I said. 35 points has been his ceiling... to blame that on his line mates is ridiculous. Edited March 5, 2022 by Harold Drunken

It depends on the deal he is willing to sign, you build a winning team by finding the next Motte... not overpaying for bottom end guys. I would go as head as 3x $2 million for him, but if he isn't signing that then time to move on and find some cheap veteran later in the summer to sign on a cheap one year deal to take that spot for half the price. Laughable, dude. During both his exit meeting with Pittsburgh, and introductory press conference in Van, Rutherford literally sounded like he doesn't know how many years he has left on this earth... The man just loves hockey, it's his life's passion. Aqua made a pitch based around the collective hunger for a championship in this market, a desperate plea for somebody with Rutherford's pedigree to help bring this city the ultimate prize. Cuz whatever Motte gets will be the starting point or ball park for Lammy and Highmore on their next contract. Do you really want to see a 4th line that costs $6M?
