So basically hire any former Canuck player even with limited or zero experience and trade away the whole team for futures?

That sounds like a recipe for disaster.

Didn’t know Fiala, Bjugstad, M.Pettersson, Siegenthaler, and Jost were “futures”

No. Many people have suggested former players/staff as GM and coach replacements. I think these ones would be extremely good. Malhotra has experience as an assistant with Vancouver and Toronto for many years now and his playing style would translate well into teaching young players. He’s firm, he’s a leader, but he’s respectful. All the young players loved him when he was behind the bench for prospects development camps and scrimmages. As for Naslund he’d be the perfect face to walk into this mess. Former teammate of the Sedins, adored by the city to this day, he and his family love it here, and he has over 10 years experience now as a GM and operations leader for Modo Hockey in Sweden. If Benning is fired the highest power of opinion that the Aquilinis will turn to is the Sedins. I can see them recommending Naslund and I can see him becoming our own version of a Steve Yzerman GM wizard.

How about Igor Larionov as President, and keep the status quo below him?

How does any of that make the team better? You are subtracting to add. It is just shuffling deck chairs on the titanic until there is new management and coaching.

Did you read? I changed the management and coaching dramatically. And this is strategic and with a purpose. Besides… clearly by what’s going on lately.. there needs to be

“shuffling deck chairs on the titanic”.

Another rookie head coach, no matter how beloved as a Canuck, is a terrible idea.

Another rookie GM with no NHL front office experience, no matter how beloved as a Canuck, is a terrible idea.

Hansen has never coached anywhere. Plus he seems to like Green’s style of coaching which makes him a hard no to me.

The Sedins are not experienced enough. Terrible idea.

This organization needs more than anything to get out from under the shadow of previous eras and establish its own identity.

A deeper, bigger, more aggressive blue line?
A shot in the arm of bigger, faster, younger forwards? Yeah because Pettersson, Horvat, Boeser are all playing so consistent and well right? Gimme a break.

Didn't we try to "get out from under the shadow of previous eras" by hiring Torts?

Sometimes the best thing to do is be patient.

You basically added a bunch of former Canucks not experienced enough or suitable for the jobs.

The Sedin era needs to finally end. Bringing them into management was a bad idea from the start. Just keeps the current group in their shadow. Your proposal takes that to next level terrible.

And sometimes it’s not. This is one of those times.

Torts wasn’t brought in to get out from under their shadow. He was brought in to break the country club entitled culture of the vets on the team. He obviously wasn’t strong enough or given enough time to do that.

The grass is always greener. Look at the players who have come here and suddenly become shadows of what they were elsewhere. It’s a very long list.

It’s not the time to tear down the roster. It’s time to get competent and experienced people determining the direction to go. That doesn’t mean every former Canuck who might want a job.

Green had no experience in NHL coaching or management when he was hired. Malhotra after this season will have six seasons as a development ->assistant coach in the NHL.
After what Hansen said about our penalty killing and team in an interview the other day; I think he can handle a little entry associate coach role. Senior Advisor to the GM and Assistant GM is not overly different so the Sedins in that role will be great. Naslund has been a leader of hockey operations and GM with all of Modo Hockey; running it with Peter Forsberg for over ten years now. I think he’ll do just fine.
