This data is a little dated but it’s still likely quite accurate. Only around 9% of players drafted in the 5th round ever play 100 games in the NHL.

Based on this chart, if I were a prospect about to be picked in the 5th round, I'd probably be like, "Y u hef to pic me in 5 rd?  Y u no pic me in 6th?"  (given that you have a 1% better chance of playing 100+ games if you were picked in the 6th round than you do being picked in the 5th)

He seems too cocky for his own good. Just the wrong mentality to be able to keep a job at his current skill level in my opinion. At least that's what it seems like to me outside looking in. It's kind of similar to Ho-Sang perhaps (albeit maybe not as extreme).

By fans who were hopeful, but not by actual hockey people he wasn't. He won the Hobey Baker, so that drew him more attention, but nobody ever projected him to be a superstar or anything. A guy that was projected to be a middle to bottom six player that was drafted in the 5th round, isn't a bust. He's already played 150 more games as a 5th rounder, than more than 90% of most other 5th rounders do.

Also by TSN ELITE SCOUT GURU :bigblush: Craig Button (he was raving about him). He also did say Virt sucks in his draft year rating him 41. But in all honesty not sure how good his scouting ability is tho.

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!! JB won this trade..... at least Highmore still got some value and is sticking in the NHL!

well

#1 he's injured, which increases his time in the NHL if not hs GP

#2 would Chicago have waived Highmore today if he was still  a Hawk?

Chicago probably has better draft picks than Dowling, Chiasson, Petan, Lammikko that would have had them send Highmore away too

His only value would be if he could win face offs and it doesn't ok like he has taken many draws this year.

In 5 face off taken he is 40%.

I think the best thing for his career would be to pass through waivers and get some time in the AHL.

So because Craig Button and his perm liked him, now he's a bust because he was waived? Sure thing!

The guy was a 5th round pick, how can a 5th round pick be a bust? To be a bust you need SUPER high expectations and then fail. How many 5th rounders in any sport come with high expectations?

Hard to believe he was a .5 ppg player for us one season. He probably never thought that would be the pinnacle of his career. I mean. I hope it's not, but likely will be. Best of luck Gaud's.

It's funny, in the NHL even if you play a single game, you're lucky. It could be your one and only game, and for some guys often is.

Called it. Essentially nothing for nothing

Well, it's more like 2 goals and 4 assists, -5, in 15 games to 3 goals and 4 assists, -1 in 26 games... and counting.

I'm good with the nothing the Canucks got.

It's too bad Gaudette couldn't add to his repertoire the ability to PK and improve his faceoff. He was considered a good two way player in the NCAA. I don't know what it is with this team and its inability to develop quality PKers. We've had to essentially outsource all of our PK talent through UFAs and trade. The last player we developed internally was perhaps Motte.

As always with these sort of things, people cherry pick the result which best serves their position.
