If Pearson, Petty and Boes get going, this team would be more fun to watch. Hoping for a great effort that does not wane after taking a lead. Still too conservative. I vote to take Pearson off the PP and GCG. Show the world that Benning has tow more years to work. Show green the door if he goes under 650 starting with MTL.

I’m not sure when you think Marky became Marky but he was probably equally good since he dragged Utica to the finals.

He was definately as good as he is now Peteys first year with the Canucks.

Tanev is more of a leader than Miller. Miller is emotional but that can bring a team down.

Tanev is a true proffessional and is the best mentor the defence could have. 
Stecher is because he was cheap and great morals/ethics.

Why change something that works?

Toffoli was lost because Benning wasn’t good communicating and later choosed another player.

 

I don’t argue the quality of Miller and Garland.

It’s that the strategy from Benning is stupid.

If he had waited patiently, similar to when he took Podz and knew he had to wait til he could come over, he could have taken the cap space and filled the team with exactly what was needed.

A top RHD, wait two years so what, you have to have cap space when the time is right.

Cannon fodder that could play PK is really cheap. Look what you are willing to pay for players like Loui and Beagle.

Covid made those players really cheap.

 

Last, we need the first in every draft. Those players stand for the future and cheap quality when our current young stars take the next step.

So Miller will be gone when the window starts.

where are the 1st that should be instead and be the cheap quality when the real window starts? 
Garland might be too expensive also when we fill up in defence.

Benning should have taken the 1st instead and choosed the player for the future.

 

It seems a lot of you here thinks that it’s very good to be patient when it fits Benning and when Benning is stressed you think it’s good to be impatient.

It's not nearly that simple.   Every UFA season you see it on this site ... why didn't we get so and so for that price and all of that.   Players have to want to stay.  Tanev didn't like his contract, neither did Markstrom.   Both were offered deals that worked for the teams cap structure at the time - which for sure is also on Benning but can't blame him for Covid or Luongo (although for sure can fault him for the timing of his expensive deals).   He tried to unload to keep guys in the OEL deal but it was too steep.    Managers can only play ball with the teams that are also willing to play ball with them - it's not a video game.   

 

Benning seems to be getting better with time.   The issue i have is the directive isn't one that's easy to create a contender with.   The "8 long year" drum keeps getting beat on, but we never really bottomed out either.   Meaning at least he has the pulse of the fanbase - not patient.   Four years between playoffs ... that's it.  Rebuild started in 2017 ... Re-tool lol ... nothing else to do but wait that one out thanks to MG.   

 

Here we are, supposed to be a bubble team but instead a basement dweller, despite being a top five possession team and actually pretty decent 5 x 5.   Without EP and BB going, and a bad PK ... the PK for sure is on Benning more then Green.   No Hamonic to start the year ... no LHD third pairing and guess what, guys like Beagle, AR and even LE matter.     No surprise here that not just any chump can PK... and Dickinson has disappointed (also on JB).   Maybe EP late signing is also on JB but i'd say that's 95% on EP not being prepared, not putting work in the gym properly.   If Garland can do it, so can he.    BB?  Well in a contract year who the heck knows what's going on there.

 

Bottom line, our 5 x 5 play is better then it has been since probably 2014.   Special teams and Markstrom were the difference his last year here.   We are better then we were with Tanev in the lineup and Stetcher.     TT?  Lol he killed us last season but how is he doing now?  Like is said 100 times, i've never seen so much interest in a player that barely played here and so much angst when he wasn't re-signed.   Ridiculous, was a rental and thankfully it worked out, we had the bubble didn't we? 

 

I actually am pro change, starting at the top.   Because it's time.   But also do see a lot of good work Benning has managed while here as well.   IF we get a President, a great hockey guy that knows his stuff, and chooses to keep Benning so be it, or IF he decides to fire him so be it too.    And the new or current GM should be the one to decide who coaches.

disagree, we'll agree to disagree on Miller, his leadership is from hating to lose, and yes he gets emotional about it.. that's the sign of a leader, takes it to heart and wears it on his sleeve.

 Markstrom? no way was he the goalie capable of what he was able to do "consistently" and only proper coaching can overcome that usually and his mechanics needed a lot of work but when all that was addressed he did great "consistently" as we all saw but with Demko being well coached too, made Marky redundant and it was Demko who would demand a increase and we couldn't afford both with price tags that big.. same as luongo and schnieds.

 as JB said himself, it was no cap increase that really messed $&!#e up and he was clearly right.

His gamble was Podz would work out and he was right again. 

 Garland might be redundant by the time his contract comes due ala Klimovich  seems to me that Klim is a super sized Garland. (thankfully) or the salary cap increases more that a million like it's only supposed to do next season..
