[Report] Canucks name Jim Rutherford as president & interim GM

I’m fine with Jim Rutherford being President but am not entirely keen on him being a GM.  I’ll have to look up his history a bit more but my initial gut feeling is that he made a number of questionable moves as a GM in Pittsburgh.

On the one hand Jim Rutherford is an experienced Hockey Exec and has won 3 Stanley Cups. On the other hand there were some questionable moves in there as well (but that can be said of any exec). 

 

My concern would be that he comes in and blows the team up, which I don’t think we need.
 

In my opinion the Coaching change fixed a lot of our problems and only minor tweaks are needed with personnel. Time will tell. 

I think if anything, this is a tell tale sign that the organization feels that they have the right core in place. Rutherford isn't really known for re-builds but rather building stanley cup champions so I think a re-build is highly unlikely.

I like this move. Easily one of the best in hockey at building a front office environment that isn’t afraid of dissenting opinions and is secure enough to build in mentorship opportunities for someone to eventually take his job.

 

We can $&!# on Aquilini for waiting too long but these 2 hires are spot on exactly what the team needs to rebuild credibility.

I think this is solid. Rutherford knows hockey and this organization needs some experienced people in the higher ups. Rutherford will bridge that gap between owner and management nicely.

I don't believe that we will make trades for quite some time. I think we will see how everyone performs now, unless there's a sudden opportunity to improve defense.

Ones thing for sure, Rutherford loves his tough rugged players. Wouldn’t be surprised he makes a move within the coming weeks and get us a big forward.

Who was big on the Pens lol

 

They had a smaller team that was fast and hard on the puck. They beat teams with their speed not their toughness

 

(Although I think we need to add toughness)
