For those who think it is weird for JR to be hiring the assistants

The GM is supposed to be someone who he will train. They are not talking about bringing in a veteran NHL GM.

I guess this confirms JR will be running the show.

Not sure how the incoming GM will feel about the AGM being a close confidant of JR. Just hope the Rutherford Show doesn’t backfire, the GM should’ve had a say in the AGM hire imo.

JR is interim GM.

Essential Meaning of interim

: a period of time between events

I.E. first event = JR gets hired;  second event = GM gets hired (interim = ended)

He did that's what he'd prefer but he's open to anything. He has a list of guys who were former GMs and AGMs looking to graduate.

The biggest thing he emphasized is finding the right guy. That's why he stated he's willing to take time if that's what he needs to find the right person.

Can we hire JB to lead the amateur scouting department? I heard that he is pretty good at that and found three consecutive Calder cup winners/finalists with his previous club.  :bigblush:

I know you are kidding but I wouldn't even mind this.

Let Benning de stress and concentrate on what he is good at, drafting and amateur scouting.

Plus then aqua gets some work out of Benning for the millions he will pay him anyway lol.

Exactly. That could be next week, or that could be in the off-season.

In the meantime I guess people expect him not to need help running the team.

If they’re going to go with a rookie GM this is how you do it. Established President. Established Coach. Guys who have been in the NHL for a while and have a proven track record to support the rookie GM. Not whatever the hell we were doing the last 8 years with a rookie GM, Coaches, President. The last 8 years were a total fail because Aqua didn’t set anyone up for success

Sedins are next maybe?

To be honest @SID.IS.SID.ME.IS.ME; I am not that impressed with his scouting or pro scouting record while with Pittsburgh. You can check it out at quanthockey.com. Granted they were drafting later on in each round but I just do not see much there that impresses me.

I hope he proves me wrong about him though.

He was involved with pro scouting- free agents, trades, waivers, etc. He wouldn’t have been involved with the entry draft.

I’m glad our ownership has deep pockets. That’s a lot of management personnel. What is it they all do? I think we will need a supervisory agm to understand all the roles and keep everyone busy.

They dont really have deep pockets, esp relative to other owners

Malkin is a UFA at the end of this season. I'd be pretty thrilled if they signed him to a short term deal.

Malkin

Pettersson

Horvat

Rutherford said there was a lot of work to do, and I think he'll be pretty active from now until the TDL.  Some players I can see leaving are: Pearson, Hoglander, Poolman, and maybe even a Top 6 player.  Be great if he could snag another (2022) 1st rounder.

Is he trying to pry crosby

In a Machiavellian sense, Rutherford also gets a trusted lieutenant and sounding board in the room for meetings which he (JR) might not otherwise be in attendance. This could be useful if the successful candidate for the new GM job is someone who is not a trusted associated who has previously worked with Rutherford.
