Yes.... do it and then revise the schedule to shorten it to 70 games as opposed to trying to squeeze in make up games.

Lol why would they need to squeeze in make up games? They pretty much have the entire Olympic break to make up games. There's no way any one would go to china and risk their 21 day mandatory quarantine if positive. Olympic is already scraped. Cut the season short now might as well just cut the season now since for some teams you just end their chance at playoff. Vancouver as great as they have been playing will prolly be fighting right up to game 82 before they have a chance at the playoff spot due to the bad start.

They are more likely to extend the season than cancel games.  Olympic break will provide some chances to make up games though the Rangers and a couple other clubs may have difficulty finding dates for other home games.  The league was furious that Montreal had a game without fans, they are trying to make up lost revenue for the last couple years and that was $2.3M in gate receipts lost.

More likely scenario than shortening season is lengthening the season and extending playoffs into the summer when numbers naturally decline.  Hopefully pandemic will switch to endemic by then anyway.

Hopefully we don't see the stupidity of meaningless regular season games being played while the playoffs are on, that was just stupid last year.

The time currently being take up with the current postponemens and likely many more to come, will in essence equate the time-frame of the Olympic break.

What I am saying is that playing every second night and needing flexibility to reschedule games could make an 82 game season last until August. I don't see that as being good for the game, the players or the fans.

If postponements continue then a good option is to redo the schedule and shorten the season.

Unlikely the number drops by summer the virus is basically mutating every 6 months and the vaccine against the new variant is useless again. We get a drop for a short period than we see a spike again and it just repeats over and over again. It's only a matter of whether it's serious or nothing more than a common flu. But with the way people are treating it nowadays and don't give a f about getting it or spreading it. This will prolly last for few more years until the virus becomes weaker and weaker where natural immunity is enough to beat the virus.

I really don’t mean to sound like a jerk here but so much of what you just said is wrong but I am just too tired to address it all.
I do agree that a certain percentage of people really don’t give an F and are holding all of us hostage because of that.

i mean what part of it is wrong? we have the alpha beta gamma variant in the late 2020 then we have the delta early in may now we have the omicron in november? the vaccine works in protecting you from getting severly sick from covid but doesn't really reduce your chances of catching the new variant.. so far each time there's a new variant there's an initial spike over the next couple weeks/month then it slows down and the data so far shows it's a cycle every 4-6 months so far for the last year and a half. so not sure what makes you think the numbers will naturally decline in the summer.

It will be cold enough so flood a couple of NFL or college stadiums and have outdoor games. It can be done. Have some mini tournys with back to backs.
