[Discussion] Claude Giroux

Recommended Posts

He's a talent for sure and there will likely be interest (versatile scorer either as center or winger, 0.9 points per game, game-changing hands and hockey sense).
If they do decide to move on from him and offer to retain some cap easily can get a 1st, blue-chip prospect and a lesser regular.  Wonder if Boston will make a push?

The Flyers will sure miss that talent though and they'll likely be a meat-and-potatoes kind of team without him (nothing against Konecny/ Frost/ Farabee and the likes of Atkinson/ Couturier/ JVR/ Laughton, etc. but none of them are game-changers offensively like Claude).

Is he on the Block? What's he worth? He could be huge for a team serious about post season glory.

What’s his contract status?  If he’s a coming UFA a team that’s close will pay good for him as a rental.  If he’s got term, he has little to no value.

Wonder if the Wild might try to take a run at him, they could use a little help down the middle and are putting together a pretty solid season. Bumping Player Name-Ek down to the 3rd with Fiala would give them a killer top 9.

Edit; lol, well played CDC, well played.

He’s a UFA this summer.

Giroux's peak was 5 years ago, he can still produce,  but he's clearly a declining asset.   He'd be a good rental piece to add to a contending team, but some team is going to overpay him on his next contract and regret it.  That team should definitely not be us.

We should not even be in the conversation of renting him.

Great player.  Must have been about 5 yrs. ago that he got drunk in a bar in downtown Ottawa and grabbed a cop's ass.  One bad dude.

I agree, grabbing some ones ass is a bad thing to do. It is called assault, by the legal people.

He's going to get a max contract from someone and they will regret it. I'll pass on anyone on their third/4th contract at this age.

But hey, Rutherford is our GM. Maybe he wants to make a move for him

There’s 0 chance he gets a max contract in dollar or term.
