HKSR
I'll confess I don't know a lot about Lafferty, but it seems like Nylander still has a lot more potential this is untapped?

Rindiculous
I don't understand this trade from Chicago's perspective. A 23 year old who is struggling this season for a 26 year old who has 21 points in his NHL career.
MeanSeanBean
Huh, feels like that's a pretty low risk/ high reward trade.
guntrix
More like high-risk for the Blackhawks, low-risk for the Penguins.

A 23 year old who is struggling this season for a 26 year old who has 21 points in his NHL career. Might be that the Hawks don’t see Nylander fulfilling his potential at 23 years old. It’s kind of the same situation with Virtanen. The Canucks held on to him hoping he’d fulfill his potential, and it just didn’t happen. Nylander could be in the same boat. He’s had time, was drafted by the Sabres, then traded to Chicago for a fresh start, and hasn’t done much there either. So Pitts would be his third team in his short NHL career already. If he can’t cut it with the Penguins, he’s quickly becoming a journeyman player, by the time he’s 25. And most organizations know what a player is at that age. You are what you are at that stage of your development and professional career.
Harvey Specter
The Pens adding a low-risk option who can report straight to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. I can see the intrigue on their end to try and find some untapped (but possibly limited) T-6/9 potential. Previously in Oct 2021, Nylander was waiver-exempt (due to a few reasons), and subsequently assigned directly to Rockford. Quote What appears to have changed is how Nylander’s 2020-21 season is being counted. Although he didn’t play last season due to an injury, it was assumed to be included toward his waiver eligibility. Last season would have been his fifth pro season, which would have changed his waiver status. According to CapFriendly, last season is no longer being included in that tally and he needs another pro season or 53 NHL games to no longer be waiver-exempt. Nylander was ruled ineligible for the expansion draft because he sat out last season, too.

CRAZY_4_NAZZY
Damn, was sorta hoping JR would make a deal for Sam Lafferty. Right hand center, defensively responsible, can be physical and fight and plays the PK.
canucklehead44
Seems a bit like when we traded Gaudette for Highmore.

Guess it depends on how you look at it. If he were to be put on the trade block right now, I'd venture that he'd garner zero interest. Therefore, zero value lol. But when both Virtanen and Gaudette had their 30+ point seasons we should have traded both for draft picks. But maybe they wouldn't bring any value in draft picks, or no one wanted to give up a draft pick for either one.
