That was a long time ago.

He also had Jim Nill with him then who appears to be the real star of that tandem.

Also having Scotty Bowman helped.

And no salary cap in 97/98 cup wins. That team was loaded. The 2002 team was after the cap and absolutely amazing work to get under the cap.

Can we please have a real, experienced GM?

We should’ve made a move for Holland when he became available.

Botterill, has some experience ?

Kidding aside, an executive from one of Col or Car might be a good place to start looking - if someone, is available.

I'm still on the Lawrence Gilman or Chris McFarland train.

Someone with experience scouting AND managing the cap or signing contracts should be priority.

If we’re hiring someone with zero experience in the role it pretty much means Rutherford will be running the show (maybe that’s what he wants).

Apparently he wants 3 assistant gms

The GM will pretty much just be a day to day guy who delegates. The GM doesn't really need to be a scout but Gilman is probably the single best capologists out there so would be great to bring him back.

The only way we’re managing the cap is if we move some contracts.

Need someone who can wheel and deal. Maybe that’s Rutherford, but I would prefer a GM that has a stronger scouting background to one that simply manages the cap.

Gillman as an assistant Id be fine with. He’s not a main guy though. I’d rather see them groom someone younger for that role.

Benning was a scout and that turned out very poorly. Like I said they will have a specialist for each AGM spot but the GM has to be a good all around guy not just a specialist.

Gilman is a really good all around guy now who can deal with everything not just a cap guy. I think he would thrive as a GM.

Scouts are kind of a dime a dozen though and can just kinda stay in a assistant role. I don't really get some of these other candidates though, maybe it's just that nobody wants to come here but that seems doubtful.

It does not matter who they hire I will give them a chance as should everyone else. There is for too much whining about experience or no experience. This will not be a two man show this time around. If they do in fact have 3 agms then they will likely decide by committee anyways. It's ironic that some of  the names like MacFarland are being thrown around yet they too are not considered experienced nor has their team won anything either.

I'm not gonna lie, I've not been impressed at least with the names that have been out there for the GM position.

I was hoping for a MacFarland or Tulsky but I guess they aren't available.

Sounds like Tulsky doesn't ever want to leave Carolina though.

Yes.

The GM who won the Stanley Cup as assistant GM in 1997, and as GM in 1998, 2002 and 2008.

Thats more Cups than the Canucks’ number of Stanley Cup Finals appearances.

That guy.

1997 was like 20+ years ago.

I think Windows 98 was just coming out.

2008 was 12+ years ago... the recession was well underway, and someone like Loui Player Name was doing pretty good.

Soo Burke had a domestic dispute charge in '97? Not saying it's good but I would hope he is not a bad guy anymore if it's been almost 25 years.

Should he be given another chance?

Not by the Canucks he shouldn't.  No real man hits a woman; some people are just pieces of garbage and he's one of them.

Heffy I'm not gonna have a conversation with you because you're gonna call me a wife beater or misogynist if I say anything you disagree with.

So which part of my post do you specifically disagree with.  If you don't want to have the conversation, than no one is forcing you to reply to the initial post, where once again your response was solely about me instead of the topic.

No man you just attack people's character and act like you're morally superior. I'm just not going to engage with you anymore. I don't like you and don't think you're a good guy.

Again, don't bother responding instead of adding irrelevant drivel to the thread.

Don't forget Hasek, Federov, Yzerman, Shanahan, Hull, LIDSTROM!

Crazy how stacked they were.... Oh sorry forgot Datsyuk and Zetterberg
