They're going to have to give up a significant piece to get a goalie this season, but any goalie they get this year is just going to be a bandaid.  What a mess

Exactly - you have to think other GMs around the league are just waiting for his call lol.

The price is going to be even higher when you consider they're going to have to factor in trading Leako Shotsgoin out as well to make room in net.

It would be such an Oiler thing if Koskinen goes and lights it up elsewhere. See Dubnyk, Devan

I suspect there might be "something in the water" with their goaltending. Maybe they have the anti-Ian Clark who derails careers when goalies get sent there.

Its funny cause today looks like Spector is back on the Koskinnen bandwagon along with Oiler fans. I watched the game and he handled the puck like a hand grenade every time it hit him or he had to make a save. He is definitely not an NHL caliber goalie in my opinion.

The Coilers should trade Connor “look at me go mommy” McDavid this off season.  The Leafs, after another first round playoff embarrassing loss, will be the perfect trade partner.  I see a deal like:

McDavid and Konstantin for

Marner, Mrazek, Sandin, 1st (2022) 1st (2023) 1st (2024)

That's the thing. It would be difficult as hell to trade him.

Maybe a deal involving Cale Mecar or something

Because Mcdiver is the best player in the league

No he's not.  He may generate more offence, but he wouldn't be putting up those numbers if he stopped floating and tried backchecking once in a while.  MacKinnon is almost as good offensively while bringing a physical 200 foot game.  He also doesn't have the character issues of McDiver, and takes a discount for the team.   McDiver for Makar would destroy Colorado's cap structure.

Draisaitl is like a squirrel - always after the nutz.

maybe someone should do the same to Drai, so he knows how painful it can be.

if you're gonna dish it, you gotta also learn to take it.

The Oilers problems run much deeper than just goaltending. Their team defence is atrocious and that's quite bad considering they have a number of good defencemen. Sure, Keith, Barrie and Ceci aren't great defensively but they should be doing better than they are. Nurse and Bouchard have been playing well though.

Their problem is that they don't defend as a team and this is down to coaching. Look at what Sutter has done in Calgary - the whole team defend as one unit and they score on opportunistic rushes the other way after standing up at the blueline or collapsing down. They play a very passive defensive system and defence always beats a good offence in most sports.

I think the Oilers need a coaching change, defensive structure change and then the players all need to buy in - especially the forwards. You need to have McDavid skating back as fast as he skates forward and blocking shots for this team to be successful, not just now but in the playoffs. It's almost a crime that you have their young core in their prime and they're not in a playoff spot.

The teams who are beating them right now for a playoff spot all have good goaltending, sure, but they have very boring, shutdown defencemen and defend as a 5-man unit. Namely, the Kings, Ducks and Flames. Larsson was a big loss for Edmonton and they tried to patch him up with Barrie. Also up front, none of their forwards are truly "two-way" forwards or defensive specialists. Their PK is quite rubbish as a result as well.

 How many coaches would that be for McDavid?

Tippett knows how to play a defensive system. Question is if the country club will buy in and play it.

What they need is a coach with the balls to tell McDiver that he either stops floating or he well be in the press box. Can't have buy in when your captain refuses to backcheck.

Exactly this. They need some sort of shake-up, and it's seemingly easier to change coaches than change McDavid. Sadly he's not the only problem, the whole team don't buy-in but if their captain did it'd be much easier.

Really what their stars need to do is sacrifice some offence to play a bit safer defensively. If McDavid and Draisaitl drop to around an 80-90 point scoring pace but play better defensively as a unit, their team would be much more successful. Instead they're out there trying to score on every shift not caring much what happens the other way.

It's not a 2 person team but sadly the rest of the team play the same way as their top stars and no one's thinking of anything defensively.

Tippett coached a hell of a defensive team in the past in Arizona but back then, he didn't have many flashy stars and the players bought-in to his system, whereas here they're not. It's a big stale-mate and a big problem which won't be fixed easily. Their play is so far from playoff hockey it's embarassing. Look at how Sutter has coached his team to all play well defensively, even their top stars. That's what you need. Calgary's defence and goalie suit Sutter's style whereas Edmonton has about 3-4 puck moving defencemen who are all rubbish defensively, no defensive forwards and a garbage goaltender.

Realistically to fix the team they either need a high-offensive coach (actually someone like Boudreau) and just try to run and gun every team (not working well for them so far), or they need to get rid of some of these puck moving defencemen who can't defend (start with Barrie, build around Bouchard and Nurse, get rid of Keith and Ceci) and get some proper shutdown defencemen, then try and trade some talent up front for forwards who can check, defend and kill penalties well. Oh and maybe splash out on a star goalie. Then that team could play a bit better to Tippett's style.
