Oh look!  We have a 4th line that is doing really well... TRADE EM ALL!!!!!1!1!1!!

Nobody's saying trade them all, but the reality is that all three players are either pending UFA or pending RFA and we have larger contract decisions looming. When working under the cap you've always got to be analyzing how the cap works out. Management can't afford the sentimentality of the fanbase.

If Lockwood is ready, then Motte likely becomes expendable. Not sure what it would cost to resign him, heading into UFA, and if he's not locking in here on long term at a friendly rate, then let's get something for him at the deadline.

Love the way he plays, but Lockwood is younger and cheaper and plays similar game.

Lock up Lockwood, Lammikko and Highmore for 3 - 4 years and there's a pretty good 4th line with a lot of energy.

We want the team to get younger.  We don't accomplish that by keeping every player we like.

I get what your saying but Motte isn’t really in that old player group. He’s a young pending UFA. It’s the Defence that needs to get younger imo

Lockwood, in the system and needing a spot, may make sense to move Motte. Love Motte, but field offers, price him high, see what happens imho.

we're not really in a cap position to give out raises next year outside of our top 6, thanks to our dead cap in Jake and Holtby.

Trade motte to a contender on TDL to get a 4th/5th pick.

Tell me. What are the chances a 4th-5th pick makes it in the NHL?

Backward move.

I agree. Love the guy and would hate to see him go but this is the smart play for the future. He should be able to fetch something decent since he’s exactly what a contender is looking for.

Need organizational depth, cap flexibility and some more draft pics.
Motte has been a good fun player to watch but if he helps fix some of the issues in moving forward to being a contender then certainly can trade him.
‘Benning did such a horrible job of filling the bottom six from within that we seem to think bottom six players are not replaceable.  This is an area where JR really did a great job in Pitts was finding depth players to come in and fill roles around the stars.
