Popular Post Warhippy
Congratulations to Kent Hughes. GM of the Habs for only a few hours and already has as many playoff round wins as the last 4 Toronto Maple Leafs GMs combined 2 14
DeNiro
The new Gillis. We’ll see if he was the exception and not the rule when it comes to hiring players agents.

qwijibo
It’s going to be more of a tandem with Gorton having the final say in any big moves. Hughes gets to hit the ground running with a very high 1st round pick plus 10 more picks (plus whatever they get for guys like Chiarot) in a draft that’s being held in Montreal

But definitely has tons of draft picks to use. I wonder what happens to Carey Price and Shae Weber deals in the long run, does Montreal weasel out of them or do they get hit. After we had to deal with Luongo's recap I'm not sympathetic to anyone else's cap situation.

After we had to deal with Luongo's recap I'm not sympathetic to anyone else's cap situation. Weber will likely finish his career on LTIR. Even if he retires it’s Nashville that gets hit with the recapture. Not Montreal. The Price situation is completely different. He’s had another setback it’s rehabbing his knee. He likely won’t be back this season. What that means long term is up for conjecture. If he can’t return to play he’ll be on LTIR as well. There’s no “weaseling” going on. This isn’t a team trying to avoid recapture. It’s simply making use of LTIR exactly as it’s intended. The Canucks are doing the same thing with Ferland

Ghostsof1915
But can he draft properly. Gotta admit Director General sounds way cooler than General Manager.

Who knows? It’s not like the draft is a one man operation though. You’ve got Gorton there along with an entire scouting department. They fired their old head of scouting in Timmons so it’s a new ballgame. We won’t know for a few years how effective the organization will be at drafting Edited January 18, 2022 by qwijibo
Whaleroad Train
I wish him good fortune, but getting the job this season is a bit like being promoted to the captain of the Titanic just after it has hit the iceberg.

We won’t know for a few years how effective the organization will be at drafting I'd still rather have a GM who has some experience with player evaluation. This guy's about as qualified as Gillis, who was an absolute disaster. The Sedins are more qualified to be GMs than Hughes. Fanuck
At the rate things are going for the Habs, there's really only one direction for Kent to go with this team. Shouldn't be hard for him to exceed this year's level of performance.

Lol Everyone living east of rue St. Laurent will be bitchin' about the hiring of Kent Hughes...La Journal de Montreal and all the French radio sports channels, along with RDS and TVA will be sh!tti!ng on Molson and Gorton for this hire. Everyone west of rue St. Laurent and on west island, and the better parts of downtown Montreal will be elated with this move. I used to live on Ile des Soeurs, so I'm in the latter group. Good hire for the Habs, though having known Mathieu Darche since his McGill days and having him as a summer intern while I worked in Montreal, I was really rooting for him. Super smart and hard working young man who comes from an amazing family.

Not quite that bad. More like Pearl Harbour after the last bomb has dropped.

Nuxfanabroad
As to the Habs dropping like a stone: they might play/feign like this is spontaneous combustion, but many saw it coming. It was a nice, determined & unexpected 2021 run, but there's a 5 yr rebuild here, that they simply have to endure.
