[Proposal] Hot 3 Way Action in Your Area (Van/NYR) (Van/MTL)

Recommended Posts

It’s interesting from a Montreal standpoint because you made it a 2023 1st with top 3 protection. Ensuring they don’t miss out on Bedard. I’m personally not high on Lafreniere and Norlinder is a very good prospect. But I think I’d still pull the trigger as a Montreal fan.  I can’t say the same would  be true if it was a 2022 draft pick though.

We know that 2022 pick is going to be top 5.  Almost without question.  Id be willing to risk this years pick of theirs with a top 5 protection just for the Russian wonder but pushing it off a year or two makes it far more palatable for them.

But,

Also gives us a chance at a top pick next year, or even better for 2024.

It’s definitely an interesting idea. I don’t personally think Miller will net that kind of return. Just getting Schneider + a pick would be a win. But if they could  pull it off it sets up a potential windfall

Agree 100% - don't see the Rags doing it but man Schneider and Hughes on the blue line would be amazing

After watching the Carolina team pick their forwards apart Motte and Miller would change their fortunes in a large way.

Motte plus Miller for two prospects, one wildly underperforming under Uber coach Gallant and a pick.

I think it's possible

This is LITERALLY just for fun.  Like LITERALLY not to be taken seriously.  If you show up in here with a "wHy wOuLd MoNtReaL dO tHaT you will have missed the entire statement of this not to be taken seriously.

BUt

The Rags showed last night exactly what they are missing.  A responsible hard nosed 2 way forward that can score.  Carolina jogged their forward core hard.  Miller, as spoken of 1004 times fills that need more than anything.  The Rags currently have a blue line that was gifted to them from Orr himself via trade, refusals to sign anywhere else or over achieving draft picks.

So trade 1:

To NYR: JT Miller 2023, T Motte

To VAN: B Schneider, A Lafrenier 2022 1st round pick

Now, on to the fun part.

Montreal is having their worst season in decades.  They just found a new player agent rookie GM. He has a surprising number of francophone players under him or did while he was an agent.  Montreal and Quebec fans in general are looking for something, ANYTHING to rally behind.  This is where this comes in.

Trade 2:

To MTL: A Lafrenier,  2022 4th round pick

To VAN: 2023 1st round pick (lottery protected top 3, lapsing to unrestricted 2024 1st round pick) Mattias Norlinder

Again, this is just for fun.  Means nothing, not serious.  The NY/Miller trades have been done to death.  Giving them Motte AND Miller hurts us for sure but ensures we get back an absolutely monster return in an RHD we want, a wildly underwhelming Alexis Lafrenier and an additional 1st this year.  Dangling Lafrenier to MTL is a no brainer because there HAS to be something they want need.  A rookie GM, a battered fan base and a club that will be failing with some ugly holes for a few seasons gives us a gamble high pick in the next two years as well.

So ya...these were all certainly words.

I would do that. I think Miller might get you the 3 peices by himself.  I would play Lafrenier the rest of the year to see what Boudreau could squeeze out of him before trading him. He is worth way more if he is at the top of his game.

They wouldn't need to be in a rush to move him.

Thing is. Lafreniere was a 1st OA just a year and a half ago.  Teams don’t give up on that sort of potential that quickly.  He just turned 20. Most players his age haven’t even seen NHL action yet.  I don’t see the rangers giving him away for what amounts to a season and a half rental player.

Their window with their available cap space is very small.  Nothing happens in the east without going through Florida Tampa and Carolina.

Last night showed the rags what they need to do to compete.

Yeah. That’s fine. That’s doesn’t mean that’s the price they’ll be willing to pay.  It’s fun for fans to speculate and try to justify. But the bottom line is you just don’t see players of Lafreniere’s pedigree traded so soon after being drafted unless you fet a situation like Lindros or Fox where the player manages to force the move

I could pick this apart fairly succinctly starting with the obvious and glaring issues Lafrenier has on the ice.  His lack of production.  His work ethic issues etc.

All under wundr coach Gerard Gallant who can't get more than .3 ppg out if the former 1st OA LW.  The last 1st OA forward drafted to produce point totals that low multiple seasons after their draft year was??

Instead I'll just leave this reminder that this was just for fun and not to be taken seriously
