If we keep out-chancing teams, the Wins will come back. It appears as though the gods are simply compensating for that W streak. I like the fight in the dog. The Nucks are showing heart and with some reinforcements, this should be a great match. The Oils on the other hand are still fragile, despite the recent win and I hope we send them back to naval gazing or whatever they have been preoccupied with.

Man, some of you are pretty $&!#ty when it comes to DiPietro. I wish they'd been firing pucks at you instead.

Third NHL appearance, 4-5th stringer, hasn't played much because of the taxi squad business. Lay off.

People forget other goalies who struggled in their first few NHL games, trying to get the rhythm with it moving much faster than the AHL. Cory Schneider and Thatcher Demko, both sucked in their first few games.

Yup, the Markstrom we initially got certainly wasn't the one who carried the Canucks on his back. Lots of tenders struggle off the hop, stepping into the NHL is no small thing.

I think it's more about the small thing being Dipietro's size. It's quite clear that unless he has a growth spurt there's a slim chance he makes it to the NHL and sticks. His profile may say he's six feet, but he plays much smaller and unfortunately gives up lots of the net as a result. Size doesn't matter as much in the NHL, but it still does for goaltenders.

Don't tell Mike Vernon that...lied about his size his entire career...Won some cups as a starter - two different teams.   Agree it matters more now.   But it wasn't always like that.

You do know that Dipietro is bigger than Halak right?

Halak has had an excellent career.

Most goalies take years to become NHLers. Look at Markstrom, he didn't break through until around 26 or so.

Khudobin is smaller and took a decade or so to be established, he is a great goalie.

Pretty sad to write off a hard working young player the way many on here have.....

That was more due to Florida's goalie development than anything.

Vancouver's goalie development has been strong going back to when Nonis was GM  I ain't writing DiPietro off.  Even a fringe guy like Eddie Lack only retired early because of injuries.

Times have changed, for sure. I was quite shocked to hear that he's bigger than Halak, so maybe MD does have the size but just needs to be taught how to play bigger. He plays really small. I'm rootin' for him, but I'm not that hopeful as I once was, hearing how much he's struggled in the A so far. Maybe he'll get there, but the organization definitely shouldn't bank on it.

Maybe, but that doesn't make the dumping I've on him I've seen since last game cool either. I understand folks want the team to make the playoffs, and that every two points matter, but franky it's just a $&!#ty way to act.

If he doesn't make it he doesn't make it, most prospects don't, but seeing folks harp on a guy who came in and gave it his best during a scenario that almost never happens at this level doesn't sit well with me.

Smaller tender or not, he's still one of our prospects and he gave it his best. That's all anyone could reasonably have asked under the circumstances.

Ian Clarke addresses the importance of 'length' in a goalie, which is not necessarily related to tall or short.

"You can have a very tall goalie that is very uncompetitive and therefore, they’re not long” said Clark. “You can have a shorter goalie, that is extremely competitive, that has more length. You can have a goaltender that’s very tall but has poor flexibility for example and they lack length because the length must also be flush to the ice. When a goalie is extending their leg if they don’t have the flexibility to keep their knee flush to the ice and really seal everything down, really that length has no value.”

Interesting article on Aku Koskenvuo, who Clarke is excited about the goalies potential.  He obviously played a big role in drafting Aku.
