Pittsburgh Penguins assistant general manager Patrik Allvin has accepted an offer to become the Vancouver Canucks‘ new general manager, according to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman.

Allvin worked with Jim Rutherford, the Canucks’ president of hockey operations, for six seasons in Pittsburgh. The 47-year-old briefly served as interim general manager after Rutherford resigned last January. He interviewed for the permanent position before losing out to Ron Hextall.

Allvin was the Penguins’ director of European scouting from 2012 until 2017 when he was promoted to director of amateur scouting. He eventually received the assistant GM title in November 2020.

The GM hiring follows the Canucks’ appointment of former player agent Emilie Castonguay as assistant GM. She’s the first woman to hold the position in franchise history.
