Junkyard Dog
Got bored so decided to make a crappy proposal. This year counts as a year in all trades. 1st trade with the Boston Bruins Boston acquires OEL 7.26M x 6 years Conor Garland 4.95M x 5 years Tucker Poolman 2.5M x 4 years 14.71M Vancouver acquires Brandon Carlo 4.1M x 6 years Mike Reilly 3M x 3 years Jake Debrusk 3.675M x 1 year RFA Chris Wagner 1.35M x 2 years John Moore 2.75M x 2 years 2022 1st round pick or Fabian Lysell ELC 14.965M or 13.115M with Wagner/Moore buried. Boston gets there RW they want which is a big upgrade on Debrusk. They upgrade with OEL for Carlo with OEL-McAvoy as a credible top minute eating D pair. Lose cap at LD with Reilly with the cheaper and younger Vaakanainen becoming ready to take that 3LD spot and add Poolman as a credible 3rd pair RD. They also dump cap they've kept buried with Wagner/Moore. 1st round pick/Lysell is the cost of the upgrades and cap dumps of Wagner/Moore Boston lineup looks like this. Top 9 FWD group Marchand-Bergeron-Pasternak Hall-Haula/Coyle-Garland Foligno-Haula/Coyle-Smith Top 6 D-core OEL-McAvoy Forbort- Grzelcyk Vaakainen-Poolman 2nd trade with the New York Rangers Rangers acquire JT Miller @ 50% retention 2.625M x 2 years Luke Schenn 850K x 2 years 3.475M Canucks acquire Braden Schneider ELC Filip Chytil 2.3M x 2 years 2022 1st round pick Margon Barron ELC Conditional 2022 4th(Turns into one of their two 2nds in 2022 if the Rangers make the ECF). 2.3M + ELCs Rangers net JT Miller who've they've been heavily interested in + Schenn as a cheap 3RD which is a spot they've been looking to fill with the likes of Schneider/Jones/Lundkvist. Rangers lineup looks like this. Top 9 FWD group Panarin-Miller-Kakko Kreider-Zibanejad-Goodrow Lafreniere-Strome-Blais/Gauthier Top 6 D-core Lindgren-Fox K.Miller-Trouba Nemeth-Schenn Canucks shed long-term cap Forward group looks like Debrusk/Pearson-Horvat-Pod/Hoglander Petey/Chytil-Petey/Chytil-Boeser Debrusk/Pearson-Barron-Pod/Hog Dickinsen-Lammikko-Motte Top 6 D-core Hughes-Myers Reilly-Carlo Insert any of Rathbone, Hamonic, Burroughs,Juulsen, Hunt, Schneider In the 2022 off-season Moore, Hamonic and Wagner will all have 1 year left and become movable potentially clearing 7.1M in cap in the off-season. Maybe a team like Arizona will need warm bodies with the amount of UFAs they've got. If not we'd still gain 2.77M in cap with Moore/Wagner buried for a year. This is not accounting for ELCs from these deals that could be on the roster but we should have more than enough to re-sign Boeser, Motte, Lammikko, Highmore, etc. We'd have a lot of cap clearing in the next 1-3 years by the time we're ready to push hard. Adding Lysell + 1st/two 1sts will help build the prospect pool back up. Succession plan at RD would be set with the additions of Carlo/Schneider on top of having Woo. LD would be more of a focus as Reilly is nothing more than a stop gap but we have Rathbone/Jurmo/Truscott there and we will have 2-3 1sts in the draft to address that need. I'd re-sign Debrusk to a short-term 1-2 year show me deal that takes him to UFA. Probably get him at less than he's making now. He could become a trade chip or if he works out though we could re-sign him. We might be 1 over the contract limit but at that point trade out Dowling or someone along those lines. Overall we add youth, especially at D, and lose long-term cap issues(albeit add short term, yet manageable cap dumps). Flame away. OPTIONAL TRADE WITH THE COYOTES Arizona acquire John Moore 2.75M x 2 years Jason Dickinson 2.65M x 3 years Mike Reilly 3M x 3 years Filip Chytil 2.3 x 2 years Jack Rathbone ELC Jett Woo ELC Joni Jurmo Unsigned 2022 1st round pick(NYR or Boston if we got a 1st instead of Lysell) 2022 3rd(WPG) 10.7M Vancouver acquires Jakob Chychrun 4.6M x 4 years Lawson Crouse 1.533M x 1 year RFA 6.133M Zona adds a plethora of picks/prospects and a young forward in Chytil. Cap dumps can serve as warm bodies next year. Lineup for Canucks then Forward group Crouse-Horvat-Pod/Hog Debrusk-Petey-Boeser Pearson-UFA-Pod/Hog Motte-Barron-Lammikko D-core of Hughes-Myers Chychrun-Carlo Hamonic-Schneider D-core would be pretty set for years. We'd have cap going into the 2022 off-season and could add a C or more offense. We'd have our own 1st, Lysell/1st, Klimovich, Karlsson as our top prospects. Flame away. 2

Neutral
Well thought out, NYR deal seems the most plausible. Too many moving parts in Boston deal and Arizona would want more if giving up BOTH those guys. But I like the outlook, that is a revamp of the roster. I would entertain moving Boeser and if we could get Fiala out of Minny it might be a nice trade all around...think we all have a soft spot for Boeser knowing what his dad has had to go through and how close they are...must really be tough on him during the season, athlete aside they are still human at the end of the day like all of us. The Boston deal is a bit of a hot mess but I think it is plausible. I could make it work cap-wise without Reilly/Poolman but with OEL there's no need for Reilly for the Bruins who's signed for 2 more seasons and the swap with Poolman gives them a 3rd RD. Grzelyck has played both sides and can slot in where Carlo was with Forbert. Zona deal probably might take more but I not sure that much more. Chytil was a 1st rounder, Jurmo a 3rd rounder, Woo a 2nd rounder, they get Rathbone who's one of our better prospects and 1st and 3rd. 5 future pieces(two 1sts, one 2nd, two 3rds). Maybe add another high pick, they seem to want them.
Phil_314
I'd say that I appreciate the creativity with the 1st one, reminds me of what we did to get out of our bad contracts (and Arizona getting out from under OEL's). It's tough to tell if other teams value OEL's defensive metrics for this year enough to want to take him on (I count Garland = Carlo in value) so OEL doesn't really have much of a sweetener, plus we're trading Poolman to them too. If they want to get both of them and let us take on a younger 6 year deal in Carlo while taking on OEL then I'd be down for it. I don't know much about the other pieces but maybe there's value to be recouped for DeBrusk and a complementary LD in Reilly? If they do it I'd be down.
