I actually feel like the 5/6/7 D are actually developing under Boudreau

When I watched the 5/6/7 defensemen on this team under Green, I found it hard to see any progress in their play.

They all seemed to be stuck in the mud as far as their development was going.

But under Boudreau I really feel each of these low time guys has been given a better opportunity to show their strong points and develop them.

Maybe this group doesn't have the gold plated credentials, but each of them has something to give.

So for example, Brad Hunt is given the opportunity to QB the 2nd Unit, Burroughs is generally matched up against the other team's tough guys where his consistent hitting is always a factor.

And for the newest guy... I am seeing a lot more out of Noah Juulsen... this game he made some good hits, and also carried the puck well and made some excellent passes including a great one to Garland to start the scoring and ended with two assists to his credit.  He is exactly what this team needs... a decent size, 6'2''/200+ lb D who can be offensively creative when called on.

Sure all these guys make mistakes and they are all prone to the typical gaffes from the low time guys, but generally I feel there is forward progress in their play.

Obviously Hunt won't be a long term member of the roster, but both Burroughs and Juulsen could end up being valuable parts of the puzzle... in the 6/7 places.

Team still needs two new 4/5 D's... I am not sure Poolman can really deliver what is needed... and also I think the Canucks need more size in the mid pairing.... and Schenn won't be there forever.

I think we can forgo 5th at the moment and maybe even 4th IF Hamonic can get sorted but we might have his cap space come open to someone else and use some of Lou's recapture and up the ante to someone a big bigger to leave that to 3rd pairing but we need another tougher D who can even fight if called up and do well at if necessary when thing get rough. If we're planning on keeping Garland, Hogs, and Hughes. When thing get rough and your smaller guys you rely upon for secondary scoring get taken out of the equation it just spells more of the same ole 1st round exit or whatever but no cup.. I definately agree but pulling it off shouldn't be crazy hard..

JB tried to pair big stay at homes and smaller faster PMD's with Guddy and Train but maybe JR can have better luck for us, at least we can put Hughes out with Myers but that's just one pairing.. love to see all 3 like that!

I hope they are developing the Canucks have about 7 or 8 of them playing way too high up the line up.

Umm okay.   Schenn isn't one ... he's a well developed vet ... so two on D.   And one shouldn't be there, it should be Hamonic who's coming in soon leaving one.     Who are the other 5/6?   Highmore is playing himself into an NHL career of sorts.    Lammy yes there's one.   Hogs isn't having a great season production wise ... Podz will get all the time in the world given his draft slot and EPs already taken a shine to playing with both these guys .... Can't see more then maybe 4.... Unless your referring to when the team was decimated with covid but not anymore ...

One of the reasons our peak Sedin teams were so good was we had six top four defenseman.   Even added Ballard as our 7th to keep that depth all the way down to 7.     Hamhuis Bieksa was the best 5 x 5 pairing in the league back then.   Bieksa was second in even strength points one year - only behind EK.    OEL-Myers is a great start, and really 13.25 doesn't look good at first glance compared to 9.25 but back then the cap was also 30% ish lower.    So it's not far off .... and only one is claused up.

Actually shown many times on this site that Ballards caps hit is equal to what Myers is, and of course the cap was expected to go up as well....6 is the new 4 is what i'm getting at.   Bieksa at 5, Hamhuis 4ish ...   what we need is more guys like this not less.    Schenn is a beauty too.   Having a career year, even without QHs last game he was a beaut.

All we really need for our D is one more guy like Toews or Tanev and it will be sorted.   Actually would be happy to re-sign Myers to play a lesser role when he's done.   What we need is QHs and his partner to leap frog OEL and Myers ....  and think that will happen.   Our bottom pairing needs a top four guy and the next guy up.   Woo?   Rathbone and Woo are doing great in the AHL...if Rathbone can be our Stetcher plus on the L side and Woo can become our Tanev we actually look pretty decent.

That has already been spent. Between the increase in Holtby's buyout, and the bonus we have Halak last night (which will almost certainly have to be carried forward), we'll have almost the same amount of dead cap next year.

Highmore doesn't play d. Neither does Podz.

I would consider the following players to be 5/6/7 dman if not further down the depth chart who have moved up the depth chart due to injuries or COVID and have played more or above their roles.

Schenn

Hunt

Burroughs

Poolman

Juulsen

Rathbone

Brisebois

Bowey

oh yeah forgot about holts, but I guess it's Halak in favour of Martin next season? However it's kind of $hitty that Halak isn't getting game time in to stay sharp but last night wasn't on him.. hopefully he gets a few more starts and plays lights out so we get something in return but at 36, was only a stop gap to get a better look at Mikey D because we need to get a cheaper backup so atm I think it could be Martin instead while Mikey gets more playing time but we can save cap there but at the end of the day, I'm pretty sure JR is going to do some lightening of the load to cap dump. How will he pull that off? I'm not sure but I don't think it will be popular losing guys but we HAVE to do it or stay mediocre.. no cup..
