(Discussion) Dickinson on the trade block

what I don't understand is what you are seeing that says he is not trying?

serious question, do you have examples of him floating, pouting, infighting?

all  I see is a guy drafted too high with hands of stone that is mi-cast as a center and top 6 winger

a first rounder who was fairly traded for a 3rd

a guy who probably slots in well for Motte or Highmore, but not Lammikko or Sutter, definitely not higher than a 3rd line winger

at best there are 2 lw and 2 rw spots on the roster for this guy, 4 positions he has rarely played

kind of a cross between Oreskovic/Mathias/Virtanen (without the party/sex habit)

maybe kind of a Gauncer, bit of a scorer in Jr, but not really good at anything in the NHL, so they try to make him a hitter/D specialist, which he is not.

you sound like you have something against him personally

and for the record, I willn't shed a tear when he goes

I have nothing against him. I wish him the very best. You sound like you're looking for an argument. Look elsewhere.

Although I agree with struggling because of the reasons you've pointed out, he is a pro making solid dough, playing in the best league in the world - he should act like it.

I thought this was a little over the top

I'm out

@Paul-walker

What are your thoughts about Dickinson’s value?

Likely negative. He’s a bottom 6 shutdown center that can’t even play center. Doesn’t win enough FO’s and is a black hole offensively. Multiple years left on his contract. The guy has been bad this year. Hopefully he can turn it around next year but I just can’t see a team offering value back. I was stunned when the Devils rumour came out about a base trade of Zacha for Dickinson with unknown pieces obviously from our side.

Do it.

Dickinson + 3rd for Zacha + 5th.

For some reason it hasn't worked here in Vancouver for dicky, our pro scouts maybe stretched the likelihood of him being a full time center which I think that's where the canucks went wrong. He's a bottom 6 left winger with average penalty killing abilities. no one is lining up for that.

the canucks have 2 options with dicky

1) hold on to him and hope he gets his game back and improves on faceoffs then decide to trade him or not

2) trade him for another struggling player with similar term and money on his deal

there's a third option which isnt likely to happen....

3) buyout

He's been pretty average considering Lammy is earning taking up less than half his cap hit and playing twice as well. 2.6M is far too much for essentially a 4th liner who sucks at killing penalties, average at defending and is scoring under 10 goals-per-season rate.

I think the only way to trade him would be to a cap-dump-type team like Arizona or Montreal and throw in a pick. I wouldn't waste more than a 3rd rounder.

Dickinson + 3rd to Arizona for future considerations, that's the only way we move him. Is a 3rd rounder worth it? The other option is we throw him into a bigger trade but I really hope management don't make any big trades any time soon with the way we're winning right now.

The other option is we just stick with him and see if he gets better, he's a former 1st round pick and only 26, sometimes defensive centers take years to get into their prime and he may only reach it in his 30s.

Finally, we'd need a replacement center and really don't have much on the farm. It may be easier to just keep Dickinson around until at least the off-season where we can try and unload him and sign a true 3C UFA.

Didn't Dallas only trade him to us because of expansion?  Maybe they'd give us our pick back?

Otherwise, be patient with him.  Every now and then I see potential with him.  It just never lasts.

If we could dump dicky, like we dumped Nate "where's my roids" Schmidt, then we got to do that.  What Dicky does can easily be replaced for a league minimum contract.
