OK, then it is a matter of semantics because that is not what I was implying. I literally meant best defensively = least goals allowed. I think that is where some misunderstanding came from. That having been said, goaltending is part of the equation. There could be teams that have better structure but their goalie can't make the save. If the puck goes over the line, what difference does it make?

I think the difference it makes is this:  without Demko playing at a rate far ‘above replacement’, the defence (to be clear, the non-goaltenders, but mostly the defensemen) would be rated significantly worse.  I submit that any replacement level goalie playing in place of Demko behind the same defense would, over a statistically significant number of games/minutes, give up a lot more goals - which would result in a significantly worse overall defensive team metric.

Yeah, I think that much has been agreed, although to what extent can be debated. But as far as the team's goals allowed, Non-Demko goalies had a combined .920 over about one third of that time (8 starts). Having good goaltending is a factor in preventing goals. Your argument that their GA would be less impressive if goaltending was worse is getting into "duh" territory. There is no "rated"; you let in goals or you don't. By that logic you could say that any team in the league would be less impressive if their best performers were replaced with substantially worse players, no? Hey, if EDM replaced McDavid with Jayson Megna they would be way worse. Goaltenders are a part of the team and not some randomly assigned contributor who the Canucks have by pure good fortune. If goaltending is a team strength and it helps to prevent goals allowed so be it.  Should they award extra goals to the opposing team if a team's goaltending is deemed too effective?

Again, I was not making a qualitative statement regarding the defensemen on the team. I was merely pointing out (to some people's confusion) that they have given up the fewest goals/game over the last 1/3 of a season. That's it. Although it is worth noting that during that time they have rarely, if ever, had a fully healthy defense available to them.

Well, I respectfully disagree with your assessment of things because my Account Rep confirmed this morning that it was only STH's that got into the building (suppossedly) for the TO game, so that confirms my hypothesis that many STH's are "SELL-OUT;s"  Literally.    Proof is in the pudding - as they say!

As for your last comment - it makes about as much sense as the rest of your post bcause I highly doubt that people that can't afford to pay their taxes and put food and water on the table are STH's ............................... unless they are from Toronto.

Nice try though!

Pfffllttt! At your diss.

People pool money together to get season’s tickets, & share ‘em! It’s not just the suits. ^That’s fan loyalty.
