What if he is proven innocent? Until then, let's not make this discussion personal.

That's why there's a court system. Nobody should be forming opinions until the trial is over. And even then, the trial system is not perfect.

Just because someone is found not guilty doesn't necessarily mean they're innocent. At the same time, someone who is found guilty may or may not actually be guilty because of:

a) evidence tampering/mishandling

b) witnesses

c) judgemental juries

Of course, most people found guilty will likely say they're innocent. Yet how many times have we run into a situation where new evidence comes to light which exonerates them? It's a little too often for one to be confident in the system, particularly if they're a person of colour.

What is there to be discussed, then?  It's about a former Canuck who got booted off the team for this very reason.  He spent almost his entire life in the lower mainland so he is extremely well-known here.  For what it's worth, I bet the vast majority of Vancouverites weren't surprised about this whole story and have already made up their mind - that he's guilty.

It's a well-publicized criminal trial and so people will be hungry for news to see what happens.  This is a forum, not the court of law.  If the mods really want to uphold the "innocent until proven guilty" here, they will need to be on watch 24/7.  This whole thread would be a massive waste of time for everyone.

I've done jury duty. The judge we had was fair. It was stupid of the defence attorney to not have a trial by judge, but he opted for a jury trial. The results were pretty much the same thing. The defence attorney (It was second degree murder) seemed to be in the middle of the trial, trying to have the defendant have the excuse it was drug induced paranoia. As he's bringing up these things he mysteriously dropped it. Not sure if he was trying to create doubt. Maybe he didn't have enough evidence to support it. We were puzzled by it. In the end we found him guilty.

What I was surprised about is we were asked to recommend sentencing. We were given a range. I voted for whatever the judge decided. In the end he got 12 years.

He will be guilty, thrown in prison, and the Canucks will still carry the dead cap.

Will be good trivia, "Which NHL team had an imprisoned criminal's cap hit count against their total cap hit?"

Hint: this team also had a cap hit penalty thrown at them for a contract that was completed years prior to the penalties coming into play.

Hint #2: this is also the team that has never won a draft lottery, even going back to their inaugural season.

Hint #3: other teams' players can punch them in the face or target their heads giving them concussions, all without penalty.

What usually happens in cases like this one, is that there's not enough evidence for a conviction.

Her reputation will be pulled through the mud throughout the trial and then the case will be

dismissed.  A civil suit will follow.

Exactly. Given how much time had lapsed when she reported the crime, that will hurt her criminal case immensely. But as one can see from the Prince Andrew case, one can still get a settlement.

The fact it's even got this far is very telling. Once it's in the polices hands, only 1 in 5 cases ever make it to this point. The chance of a conviction is historically so low that this is likely as far as a criminal case goes though. Jake even went and hired Martland & Saulneir who have tons of experience and power, They have worked massive cases like the Pickton Trial. Hopefully justice is served in the end.

This thread is already a massive waste of time based on pure speculation. Why don't you watch "As the World Turns" or some other soap opera. Haha!
