NHL Draft Lottery to be held on May 10th

I feel for Montreal fans.

Weber gone and Price injured most of the time after that cup final, pretty much just plummeted them to the bottom.

They also haven't had much luck with centers over the past few years (with Kotkaniemi and Danault leaving) and now they have the opportunity to draft a potential franchise center.

Canucks haven't picked 1st - ever.

Maybe the league should have a new rule - anyone that has won a cup since the Canucks came into the league can NOT get 1st overall until the Canucks do.

Canucks have also never finished dead last in the league standings.  Like it or not that factors heavily into who picks first. Even when you factor in the luck aspect of the lottery. People like to gloss that part over when they’re formulating their conspiracy theories.

“There are a lot of good players in the draft and not a lot of difference between No. 4-5 down to No. 15-16, and our staff is pretty excited about picking 15th,” said Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin. “The key to success in the league is drafting and developing your own players and it’s a big part of our franchise moving forward here to continue to find players and work with them.

“We’re intrigued because there are good players in that (15th overall) range. I believe in picking the best player, regardless of position, and you can never have too many players in one position.”

This years draft could be really hit and miss given all the development time a lot of the kids list due to COVID shutdowns.  The Canucks could score an absolute gem at 15.

Hoping for Pickering

Of course. They get to the final and then win the top pick, I'm not bitter at all.

We never crashed that badly after making a finals. We also didn't lose our best defenceman and #1 goalie in one season either.

If Hughes and Demko were out for the season we'd probably be bottom 5 too.

I def understand why they were in a position to win it, but man.. a Canadian team that isn't Edmonton finally wins again and it ain't us. We sure could have used a top 3 pick when we were bottoming out, but we dropped almost every time.

Yeah really wished we won either the 2016 or 2019 lottery.

First draft - Sabres won on a spin of the wheel.

How about the year Crosby was drafted?  Penguins won that lottery...yah yah, we only had 1 ball and they had 3 - the Habs only had 1 and they got to pick Price @ 5th!

That's incorrect - we finished DEAD last in the 71/72 season - yet picked 3rd the following year (cause of expansion).

This whole by process is NOT very transparent at all…is it?

Let the reverse-order of the standings at the end of the regular season decide the new draft order, period.

Coin tosses can break any ties…or use the same tie-breaking formula implemented to decide potential play-off positioning. Done!

Totally transparent - it works for me!

Did you get fitted for a new tinfoil hat or something?  It might be a touch tight.

When refs are video taped fixing games, you know that sh## comes from the top
