[Report] Canucks fire 5 amateur scouts

Not surprised PA/JR are shifting in the scouting department. Honestly not a huge fan of nepotism, so I'm kind of happy about the Benning firing. Other than that, it's hard to read what these guys do behind the scenes other than Conacher. Picks from the Dub, Canucks own backyard, have been underwhelming but he only started in 2019, and the only WHL player drafted since then is Carson Focht.

Glad that Gradin and Delorme have been kept around.

Firing without cause would likely result in a lawsuit, and ultimately tarnish the brand.  His family ties to the former GM is not a good enough reason to fire him if they can't identify a suitable "just cause" as an excuse.  JR is savvy enough to protect the brand.

You can fire for any reason you like other than discriminating against protected groups as long as you pay severance.

Why? What about a guy losing his job make you happy? Is it because of his last name? Really?

Ron Delorme has been with this club for way too long and also needs to be fired.

He seems like a good guy, apparently he is out in the community a lot promoting youth hockey among native kids.

But holy hell the guy must be made of Teflon he's been here like 40 years. Ran the scouting when it was a laughing stock. No clue how he is still here.

The team needs scouts who are ready to travel at a moment’s notice without “family” type commitments ..  these guys should be on the road 2-3 weeks out of every month.

it’s one thing to have a “guy” (or girl ) in an area,.  But ultimately it’s the consensus of a team of scouts who bring their opinions to discuss a players potential after they see him “in action” of a number of games.

I wonder if T Gradin still holds his job in Europe?

Amateur scouting should be a fairly easy job to evaluate. It’s not just who you ended up picking, it’s all the players scouted. Go back and look at the notes on each player from each scout, who was recommended and who wasn’t, and see how they panned out.

Judd Brackett was poached from us, and he seems to be doing a great job in Minny. I’m happy that we’re turning into the team doing the poaching now.

Good to see the axe starting to fall on the old guard and some much needed improvements hopefully incoming.

Tough to say from a fans perspective how much input these guys had into the mistakes of the last 10 years, but our drafting and FA scouting has been below average in a time where the GM was a talent scout, we had nothing but high picks.

Cammi clearly wants to retool, and likely already has her team picked out. It'll be interesting to see who she brings in. Must have decided it was easier to build the culture than shift it with the current staff.
