For someone as classy as Marleau was this is an extremely ignorant post.

It's the truth, though.

Superb player on his day, but he's been finished for three seasons now.  Could have called it quits last May, obviously didn't because he was hoping for another mid-season comeback during the season.

His decision was made for him.

Hope that helps.

Not surprising you double down on being ignorant. Typical of your posting, hope this helps.

Are you Marleau's family or something?  Get a grip ffs

I never said he was bad player, didn't have a great career, etc.  I simply said his decision was made for him.

So embarrassing.

Is he a HOFer?  Let the debate begin...

I say no.  He played a long time... just not sure if that's enough.

566 goals

631 assists

1197 points

1779 games!!

I'd say he gets in. Longevity is also a factor in greatness, IMO. It helps that Marleau was a solid point-per-game guy in his prime too.

How many Hall of Famers have had their team pay another team a first rounder to get rid of him?

So you’re just going to ignore the first solid decade and a half of his career over a trade when he was 39?

After Marleau’s retirement, there are only two players remaining who were drafted in the 1990s — Joe Thornton and Zdeno Chara.

Who will be the last man standing?

Some form of "last man off the ice"?

I say yes.  The all time games record might be enough for me even if he didn't have 1000 points.

I'm in no hurry to get him in there, but I'd have him on the right side of the line.

I would say "yes"

Only 4 retired players with more points not in HHOF  (Turgeon, Roenick, Nicholls and Damphousse)

Zero retired players with more goals............

23rd all time in goals scored..........

May take a while to get in but I say "yes"

That and Turgeon and Nicholls should both already be in.  I'm not terribly opposed to Roenick either.

I remember watching Marleau playing for Seattle Thunderbirds as a 16yo phenom and Chara for the Cougars as an import rookie.  Man does time ever go by fast.

I saw them play each other in PG back in the mid-90s.

The Cougars ended up beating the T-Birds 5-2 and as the game entered the last 5 minutes, the scraps started. Everyone at the CN Center started chanting "Chara! Chara!", but none of the T-Birds would make eye contact...

Marleau ended up in a fight with Ronald Petrovicky, who was the Cougars' Captain at the time. I was actually pretty shocked that RP scored a unanimous decision, even though he gave up several inches (and pounds) to PM....
