JR wants Sandpaper (Discussion)

Maybe I'm misunderstanding what 'sandpaper' means, but I think of somebody who's an agitator. Btw, father Tie is even shorter.

And well over 200 lbs, not 190.

When he says sandpaper I assume he means size too.

Crouse would be a good target.

Maybe Rathbone and a 2nd for Crouse. I wonder if Arizona would be open to that. Rathbone might need about 20 NHL games in Van to prove he's got it first.

Or Rathbone and Hoglander for Crouse is another option.

Not that they are stars or anything but can't seem to wonder what a 4th line of Gadjovich, Lammiko and McKewan would look like in terms of "Sandpaper"

JB does it again!

Definitely should have kept Big Mac. I never understood letting him go. He’s been an absolute monster for Philly!

Gads was good in that role too.  Nice to have both.  Both are fairly young too.

On the backend I think we are alright with Shenn Burr Myers need to have balance. We all saw how Gudbranson worked out. That said I'd love to add Andrew Peeke.

-Sign Val Nichushkin we need top 6 grit. Give him Brock's money.

-Offer sheet or trade for Roy out of Vegas. They don't have the cash to re up him.

-Maybe JR signs Aston Reese again?

Interesting that JR said the Canucks need help with getting more RD and Cs developing. It's true, so I do wonder if they target a C or RD with the #15.

C - Focht, Karlsson, Zlodeyev

RD - Woo, Persson

Not that good. Karlsson's really the only promising player in that group.

Sounds like Woo could be a player who could be dealt and not in the Canucks future plans?  Same with Focht, I thought he would become a good C, but maybe they don't see that?

Definitely makes sense - Petey's the only young top-9 center that we have.
RD looks pretty dire too. I like that they're planning for a few years from now instead of winging it every year like Benning.

Its part of why I could see them moving up in the draft - they badly need to find a top pairing RD for the long term, and chances are they'll find that closer to the top of the draft.

I think the new management sees Woo as a fourth line winger, who could be sandpaper.  That's why Woo plays wing now.  If Woo wants an NHL career he needs to embrace that role.

Could actually be an interesting development for him, as a defensive-minded PK specialist.

Yeah I genuinely don't understand why people are upset that we lost those guys.

Motte-Lammikko-Highmore was a far better fourth line than anything that would have included either gadjovich and macewen.

Neither Gadjovich or Macewen would crack the lineup on a good NHL team.

I really like Johan Larsson, the most underrated defensive specialist out there, that know nobody talks about. The only downside is he’s plagued with injuries. The most recent a sports hernia.

I'd look at some lesser known but in that age range JR and Allvin are looking for. The bottom two will be a lot harder to pry away especially Jeannot.

LW Max Comtois (23 years old, 2 mil year/ 1 year remaining) Anaheim

LW Max Jones (24 years old 1.2 mil/3 years remaining) Anaheim

RW Christian Fischer (25 years old, 1 mil/RFA) Arizona

C Michael Rasmussen (23 years old, 1.26 mil/2 years remaining) Detroit

LW Carl Grundstrom (24 years old, 725K/RFA) LA

C Steven Lorentz (26 years old, 725K/RFA) Carolina

LW Trent Frederic (23 years old, 1 mil/ 1 year remaining) Boston

LW Tanner Jeannot (24 years old, 800K/1 year remaining) Nashville

I don't think JR and Allvin wants plugs that can't take a regular shift. Seeing how Carolina and Pittsburgh teams were built, they worried less about players who would purely fight, but guys who were fearless in going into the hard areas of the ice. Mac and Gadj are tough, but they don't fit the NHL well for a reason, their lack of footspeed and inability to conrtibute other than fisticuffs isn't exactly how they want to build out a team.

I thought about comtois as well but I don't see why the ducks give him up. He plays a specific role in their rebuild.
