[Proposal] Miller to LA

Recommended Posts

This proposal is based on two premises.  First, that even though JT Miller is the heart and soul of the Canucks’ offense, we won’t be able to retain him financially.  Second, that even though my proposal involves a team in our division, our management will be able to formulate a trade that benefits the team sufficiently to make a trade within our division a non issue.

I don’t think JT is going to generate the bonanza return that some fans are hoping.  He is on  a contract which next season will be a bargain for the receiving team, but after that his salary and term could be problematic for them.

So here goes:

To the LA Kings: JT Miller with no salary retained

To the Canucks: Helge Grans, Arthur Kaliyev, 2022 2nd round pick

While that might not be the windfall that some of you were hoping for, I think it is reasonable valuewise.  We are looking for a RHD and the Kings have three in their top ten list of prospects: Clarke, Faber and Grans.  They also are loaded at forward: Byfield, Turcotte, Kaliyev, Fagemo and three lesser center prospects.

Rutherford has already ben talking about creating some cap space and using it to acquire players from cap strapped teams prior to the beginning of the regular season, so that would be an additional bonus from a Miller trade.

Kaliyev is extremely valuable. Had a very solid 1st season, huge offensive upside. Major podkolzin vibes.

If LA does this deal, we do it and don't look back imo, as much as i love Miller.

But what we want is only half of the equation, the other half is what the other team is prepared to give.

ur proposal was good, and reasonable. kings keep the prospects likely to be most valuable to them, add a major piece at discounted salary for a cup run next year, we get 2 prospects that can be impact players for us in 2 years time or so (perfect for our window).

Pretty solid win-win.

I think this is about the value to be expected now for Miller.  Yes, we could have gotten quite a bit more before the past TDL.  Likely both these young players are bustaroos.  And a second is a serious craperolla shoot.

So we should keep Miller (even not signed) and play him on our team.  No point in trading him for basically nothing now.

Want Brandt Clarke.

Before this last TDL we could have gotten a Brandt Clarke level of player for Miller.  That opportunity is now gone.  Best we keep Miller than trade him for scrubs, like the OP suggests.

Why is it gone? If anything Miller solidified the return he's going to bring with his play right up until the end of the year, which should be large and should start with a 1st round pick + A prospect ++

I hope you’re right.  But I don’t think so.  We will see the return come summer.
