Well, since Florida is much more talented, probably pretty successful.

That's like going from a Ford Taurus to a Ferrari.

But if the driver shouldn’t be on the road…

JR even said as much when he got here.  He said we are capped out and aren't even a playoff team.  Benning made a big mess, and it's  going to take more than a couple

off-season's with competent management to clean it up.

JR did say that it would take some work to untangle the cap, etc.

However if you look two years down the line, we only have Demko, Quinn, and OEL signed long term.

Demko and Quinn are on amazing deal while a lot of people are afraid of OEL's decline (I'm not one of them).

I just don't share the doom and gloom about our cap situation. We are for sure not going after any expensive UFAs this summer, but we shouldn't be doing that regardless until we are closer to contention.

Tyler Myers will have tons of value after this season. We will have about 5 million in buyouts and bonuses falling off the bottom line too. Michael Ferland contract will be done.

We have one more season of being patient before we can sign UFA deals that we regret. My main concern is getting Boeser done for a longer/cheaper contract.

Gillis made a big mess himself way before Benning came in.

Gillis' teams won two Presdient's trophies and got to a Cup Final - game 7.  Best results ever by a GM.  Teams going all in to get a Cup should after the attempt rebuild.  Gillis suggested that plan to our owner and was let go.  Clearly a mistake by our owner.

Why would you trust an idiot who couldn't draft or trade with a rebuild?  Gillis wasn't qualified to be a GM before he was hired and he ran the team into the ground with his gross incompetence.  He simply is not capable of evaluating talent and should have been fired long before he was.

Gillis was the best GM we ever had.  The results of his clubs are the proof.  That's not arguable fact.  Benning being our worst GM is an opinion with which I agree.

What were three of his best moves?

What does that matter?  He was the GM that got the club to two President's trophies and game 7 of the Cup.  That's the best we've ever had.

Was it Gillis who brought in Dan Hamhuis and Manny Malholtra, and traded to get Erhoff.

Guys wanted to come here.  Then Benning happened.

Gillis got gifted an excellent core by the previous management group, which he then managed to destroy.  He was easily the worst GM in the history of the franchise.  Quinn started with nothing and built a Cup finalist.  Calling an incompetent clown better than the Big Irishman is incredibly disrespectful.

And you honestly think those are the moves that resulted in President's Trophies and a Cup Finals appearance?

You don't think Dan Hamhuis and Christian Erhoff were important support players?  Add Manny Malholtra to that supporting cast too.  These guys are hugely important.

It's fact that the Gillis teams were our best ever.  Then Benning came in and ...

Sure, hugely important. But what about the Sedins, Kesler, Burrows, Luongo, Edler, Bieksa, Raymond...

Of course, those are some key core pieces.  But what had that group won before Gillis surrounded them with an excellent supporting cast?  That core was dieing on the vine until Gillis came here.

Now we have JR trying to do what Gillis did.  We have a core but the supporting cast full of overpaid older guys who don't fit. JR needs to fix our D pairings.  Curious to see what he does.

Gillis rebuilding would’ve been a complete and utter disaster. he couldn’t draft his ass out of a golf hole.

Supporting cast/depth matters - ask any team that's won the cup in the last decade. That being said, Burke did a lot of the groundwork for those teams too.
