Rumor: Mike Yeo possibly joining the Canucks as an assistant coach?

From what I understand Yeo wouldn't be a bench coach, but the "eye in the sky" (like Kyle Gustafsson was).

Some could wonder why someone who was an NHL head coach is now going to be a press box coach. He's overqualified, if anything, and would bring good experience.

I would think Yeo sees an opportunity for the Head Coaching poistion maybe next season. JR didn't exactly give BB a booming endorsement, good, but not over whelming. BB I like but he's a players coach ( and good at it) but [layers coaches have a limited shelf life

Yup.  If BB didn't have 2.5 million dollars coming his way, or he didn't get a job (for similar money) with an eastern club during that time he was "deciding" whether to stay or not, Yoe would be the coach.  And I wouldn't at all be surprised if BB is let go during this season, and Yoe steps into that head spot.  Especially with the rumors we are changing the roster quite a bit.

I see this as JR and staff laying the groundwork for after the real change coming.

Makes sense to have BB coach next season then let him go. In the meantime, Yeo will have had a season to view the team for a year and develop his plan of attack once he takes over the season after.

Yeo has history with Rutherford and Allvin so I wouldn't be surprised if the plan is simply to start the sweeping changes planned and let BB guide the roster for the season then install Yeo next summer.

I think JR foreshadowed this scenario when he said he didn't want to have his owner paying salaries for several head coaches.  So, BB gets his year (2.5 mil) and then Yoe takes over.

Was looking at eliteprospects to see when they crossed paths and it seems like limited interaction.  Yeo was with the Penguins' organisation from 2000 to 2010.  Rutherford was with Carolina through that time.  Allvin joined the Penguins as European scout in 2006.

Possibly the worst head coach I’ve seen, and with what the Canucks have had in recent years that’s saying a lot! But, as an assistant I think he must have some value, he never stays unemployed.

Yeah and despite his record, he seems to be more suited to be an Asst rather the Head Coach.  He seems like a rigid coach and we all saw how the roster played under a rigid coach.

That's precisely what I'm afraid of.  Yeo is an absolutely horrible head coach who has a lot of the same problems as the incompetent clown Boudreau took over for.
