IBatch
Janis if this one works we'd be in great shape in a couple years ... I personally feel this team is good enough to make the playoffs next season even with trading Miller if we can get a decent 3rd C (young one who will get better) and with just a modest upgrade on defense. That is probably true but that would also likely represent the peak of that group, a team that can compete for a playoff spot and hope Demko gets hot at the right time. I want to see a team that can compete for the cup and expecting to turn around 8 years of Benning in one summer is not reasonable, it will probably take 2-3 years to correct most of those mistakes and put this team into contending status if things go well (big if). JR will try to do a quick 2 year retool around Demko, Petey, Hughes. If it works, that great. If it ends up being another two years of Benning, then what does our owner do? Does our owner have the gumption for a proper rebuild? I think not. So it’s going to be rinse and repeat. Retool, fight to make the playoffs, and HOPE for a magical playoff run.

No, but I do in 3 years! I like a lot of this. I still would like to find takers for Pearson and Dickie and try to get some bigger bodies on the bottom 6. The d upgrades will help a lot. As far as playoffs... if Crouse and Petey had chemistry out of camp, I'm not sure I'd count them out of a wildcard spot tbh if we could bulk up that 4th line a little bit.

spook007
If you could swap Myers for Manson or similar, there may be a little left for either a 4th line up grade or some cap space. A little surprised to see you use 2024th 1st in a swap deal... if this quick retool doesn't work, its another year we've got to wait to draft in the top half. Unless we know the retool works, we need to have something for a big (and I mean big... as in selling the family silver) turnaround. If whatever we end up with now, doesn't look capable of competing over the next 2 years, I think a massive clear out could be on the cards. Popular Post J.I.A.H.N
@smithers joe, @JM_, @spook007, @IBatch, @Alflives, @DrJockitch, @Hairy Kneel, @Canuck Surfer So, I really did try to create a big strong young team, out of players I thought may be available, with the assets we have. It's truly almost impossible, to get any better than the proposal. I considered taking a stab at a top 5 pick, and it makes you suffer in other area's. I considered moving out Myers, but it truly starts to look like a card swap, as Joe suggests. I am not sure my values are all that bad, but it just gets looking like that card swap. As for Myers, staying..........IMO, he is not playing all that bad, and truthfully, I do not see all that many improvements out there in free agency, once you consider, that you have to entice someone to take him. With what? Then is the guy you get, that much better? PS................the other thing that keeps haunting me is, ................I do not think any of the picks, or replacements for Miller turn out as good as Miller, so I struggled with that....... So as much as being King is fun...............I do not want to be JR! 2 1

I liked Lamby too, I think Dickinson is a lost cause, and Lockwoods late season injury has me worried about the stability of his shoulder. I think a cheap alternative is for Burroughs to be a 7/11 4th line banger and fighter.

So as much as being King is fun...............I do not want to be JR! Hey i think you did amazing. And agree with your comments on Myers 100%. OEL/Myers isn't that far off from Hamhuis and Bieksa. If they had better support they'd likely improve. I couldn't make a better lineup. The only thing that makes this really tough is a divisional trade scenario. I believe Steve Staois is the high bar with EDM. And Kesler of course is the highest bar of any trade to a divisional rival. They just don't happen often. Edit: Out of everyone on this site i enjoy yours the most so keep it up! And well we know all us middle aged to old farts, it's hockey and you can't ever discard anything from happening. EDM traded to LA the best player all-time, and it's still to this day used as example that absolutely anyone can be traded. I do worry about LA and ANA catching up to us. Personally i'm patient enough to wait and see how next season goes with some core ascension still. Know we need to trade one blue chipper and Miller is a good choice. But i sure love him too. What i hope the other guys on the team aspire to play like. Edited June 10, 2022 by IBatch

I tend to think more that this is the opportunity to role the dice big if can leverage some assets into a very high pick. When we whiffed on two top 10 picks we really set the rebuild back and the overall roster has some really big warts. We have the beginnings of a group with Pettey Q, Demko, Bo and Podz but we need another elite scoring forward and high end right D prospect or three to grow this group together. We also just need a tonne more depth of prospects urgently. A sell off now may hurt the next couple of years but should put this team in a much better position to be looking at cup runs, not just fly byes of the playoffs. The current team is small, slow and lacks depth of both high end talent and prospects. Not sure that is fixable in one off-season, a lot of damage was done the last 8 years. 1
