Wait- the Rangers played meaner, but still lost?

But tougher, meaner teams ALWAYS win, just ask multiple posters on CDC.

Hossa was a top player on each of those clubs.  Perry is a nice supporting piece.

Brian Propp was the original Hossa.  It used to be that you acquired him and you were going to the Final...Philly, Boston or Minnesota.  Never quite won a Cup but had five appearances.

Perry is just flat out a winner.   I wish our team had a player like this to learn from.

Yeah the 1989 Canucks team was full of those kinds of old battle tested leaders in Linden's rookie year and first playoff appearance.  Mel Bridgman, Smyl, Reinhart, Snepsts.  I imagine it helped set the stage for 94.

We didn't get Prime Crosby and Malkin vs Prime Toews and Kane in the playoffs. This is probably the best possible finals that I can remember since at least 2002.

Hope it lives up to the hype, won't be missing a goddamn second.

The key to this series is whether or not the Avalanche defence can skate away from Lightning forecheck. Whoever wins this. Wins the series.

Agreed.  The Avs will push the play to try and get to hyper fast with lots of end to end chances off the rush.  I’m now wondering if Tampa, because of their huge advantage in goal, might not mind that game?  Or will they try to slow up the game no matter?

They tried taking Tampa’s best players out like they’ve been doing all playoffs but it didn’t work this time.

Don’t know how anyone could have been cheering for the Rangers.

They made so many dirty plays to try and injure not to mention Reeves is a punk and Gallant is a turd.

Kinda says a lot too that literally no one else was defending their dirty play besides Rangers fans.

Didn’t TBay only start winning after Yzerboy was tossed?

Some GMs are builders other GMs are the ones that put the finishing touches on teams and bring them to contender status.

Yzerman is a builder. He did a lot of the heavy lifting and work to set that team up (same thing he’s doing in Detroit).

Brisebois will get most of the credit as he’s the one that took them to a dynasty level. But you can’t ignore Yzermans contributions.

Thats where hopefully Benning was the builder of our team and JR is the one that can make the right moves to get them to contender status. Much like he did with an already built Pittsburgh core.

He built that team no doubt about it

Fact though is TBay needed to toss Yzerboy to the curb to get the guys on the club to put them over the top.  Speevie couldn’t get that done.  Out with Yzerboy; in with Cups.

It’s very uncommon that the GM that built a cup winner is the same one that’s there to see them through to a championship. That’s just the nature of being a GM.

Just like he probably won’t be there to see Detroit win a cup if they do but his fingerprints will be all over that team.

You need both of those types of GMs to win a championship. Yzerman was strong where Brisebois is weak and vice versa. Stevie knew how to draft and set up a core and Brisebois knew how to make trades and target the right veteran players. Can’t build a championship team without either.
