Nashville, Tenn. (June 17, 2022) - Nashville Predators Chairman Herb Fritch has agreed to sell the majority of his stake in the team to former State of Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam. Discussions have proceeded smoothly, and definitive documents are being drafted. Upon the execution of definitive documents, the completion of a due diligence process, and securing all necessary approvals within the organization and the National Hockey League, Haslam is expected to become a minority owner in the next few months; within the next few years, through a multi-phased purchase transaction, Haslam will become the club's majority owner.

"From the time our ownership group, made up of day one season ticket holders, gathered together in 2007 to purchase and guarantee the franchise's future in Nashville, the goal has been to ensure that stewardship of the team is in strong local hands," said Sean Henry, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Predators and Bridgestone Arena. "The pending addition of Governor Haslam to the ownership group solidifies that local stewardship for years to come, with the shared philosophy for making SMASHVILLE the most unique sports market in our league and country as our players and coaches compete for the Stanley Cup each season. We are excited and appreciative that he has agreed to join the ownership team."

In December of 2007, Predators Holdings LLC purchased the Nashville Predators and Powers Management (the management company that operates Bridgestone Arena) and assumed control over the day-to-day operation of the National Hockey League team and Bridgestone Arena. Herb Fritch currently serves as Chairman of the Predators, a position he assumed in January 2019, succeeding Tom Cigarran.

But even louder, you have Bettman yelling...

YOU SUCK!

On a more serious note, there is no way in hell Bettman will allow a US team, no matter how financially pathetic to be moved to Hamilton, or anywhere else in Canada, I suspect.  No matter how much sense it makes.

Well this is terrible.

Bill Haslam is legitimately a terrible person and he was a horrible governor who only got into power because his family's money. He's horribly anti LGBTQ+, a gun nut in the worst way, and a religious zealot. This man should not be owning a NHL club or any sports franchise for that matter. His actions as governor of Tennessee have ruined/hurt more lives than he's helped.

I feel bad for anyone who works for the Predators organization. What a mess. I hope the NHL Governors pass on this guy. He'll be the new Eugene Melnyck but a worse person.

Don't be shocked if Haslam gets control of the Predators to see the team suddenly "trade" Luke Prokop, among other measures (Reminder: Luke Prokop is the first NHL drafted and signed prospect to ever come out as gay during his playing career) since Bill hates gay people and has the track record to prove it. (As governor Haslam put a law in place that allowed adoption agencies to discriminate against same sex couples seeking to adopt children and he's still against gay marriage being legal).

*BARF*

And he's a former Governor and a billionaire.

Why am I not surprised.

Shame that the NHL and its BOG would entertain welcoming an individual with a questionable history into their organization when other leagues like the NBA have said good riddance with people like Sterling.

Silver lining would be if we got Prokop cheap; he'd fit in well here on and off the ice.  Really hoping the league grows a pair and turns him down.  It's time for everyone behind the You Can Play initiative to step up and say something.

This is the same team that was owned by "Boots" Del Biaggio III. Who eventually went to prison for 97 months for fraud.

I'm surprised the Predators are only the 26th most valuable franchise. They've been competitive for a while and recently had an almost 200 game sellout streak. I would have expected them to be more middle of the pack at this point.

200k gets you a mansion there, vs 700k gets you a condo here. Id bet reasons like this are why they are valued where they are... And likewise with us

It's not a full transfer of ownership.  Chairman Herb Fritch will be gradually selling his shares.  For now there are no plans for their other 16 minority share holders to sell.

Former Gov. Bill Haslam is joining the ownership group of the Nashville Predators, gradually purchasing shares from lead owner Herb Fritch over the next three years.

  • Multiple sources familiar with the deal, which is nearly complete, confirmed the details to Axios. News of Haslam joining the Predators ownership group was first reported by Sportico.

Why it matters: Haslam, 63, brings stability to an ownership group that could have faced an uncertain future.

Details: The Predators' ownership structure is unwieldy with 17 different people owning shares in the organization. Fritch took over as chairman succeeding Tom Cigarran in 2019, and over time has emerged as the investor with the largest share.

  • Fritch, a health care entrepreneur, and Haslam began negotiating in earnest about six months ago. For now, there are no plans for other minority owners to sell shares, sources say.
  • Fritch will continue in his role as chairman of the ownership group. Haslam will enter the ownership group with a minority stake and become the lead owner in the coming years.
