Popular Post -DLC-
I just wrote a tribute to/about my Dad. He's an amazing man who's the epitome of father/grandfather. Always has been, my entire life. Was a husband who stood beside his wife in the darkest of days. When she was 52 and being discharged after having a debilitating brain aneurysm and stroke. we were called into a family meeting with other families who also had their loved ones leaving. The meeting was to determine a "plan" and all families were asked "where" they'd be placing their loved ones. My dad was confused..."what do you mean, where's she going? She's coming home". He was the only husband who signed on for taking his wife home and assuming the role of caregiver. No outside support, he declined it as it was "his job" in his words. In sickness and in health stuff. And, so it was, 20 years of doing it all. Mom was jokingly called the Queen...he doted on her. Brought her tea when she summoned for it. Did all the housework, shopping, laundry, caring for her (I helped, but didn't live at home so it was intermittent help). She could be a handful, but he always rose to the challenge and never grumbled. OK, he did...but it didn't stop him from getting done what needed to be done. When he had to go to work (fishing the river) she came to stay with me. Except that one time she demanded to go with him...I'll never forget the sight as I pulled up to see him trying to load her, her chair, the cooler full of food, the fishing gear, etc. into the little herring skiff in choppy waters as it bashed against the rocks. Treacherous. But he got it done (as always)...and off they went. He was there for my kids when my ex opted out. Gave them a secure, safe, stable environment when I was at my lowest and didn't know how I'd make ends meet. I worked 3 jobs and he picked up all the slack that I couldn't pull together. Drove them where they needed to be. Bought them electronics that I couldn't afford so they didn't go without. Showed up for every event. Baked their birthday cakes (pro skills). He was a rough, gruff outdoorsman. Hunted and fished his entire life. But when his wee kitten was in peril, you've never seen a softer man. Real tears. To this day, he cares for his 20 year old cat like she's a princess (yes, she even has a crystal pedestal water dish...it was Mom's....shhh don't tell her). Papa is everything to me/us. This was different than what I wrote but it sums it up. Scratches the surface (it would take a novel of War and Peace proportion to get it all out there). Happy father's day, to my dad and all the incredible dads out there. You rock! 5 2 2 9

Popular Post bishopshodan
Happy fathers day Dad. Mum says I look like you more and more as I get older. That makes me happy. She lives with us now in a nice granny suite. I'll take care of her till the end. We talk about you all the time, you're still with us in a sense. I miss you. Rest in peace. 1 3
Popular Post Gurn
Father's Day is a bit of an awkward day for me, and my step Dad. He married into the family when I was 16 and on my way out into the world. Had he been my bio Dad, or met us a few years earlier; I'd be a much better man than I turned out. In fact, him not meeting us earlier is probably my biggest regret in life. A man of integrity, helpful and caring; thanks for being you, Dad. 4 1
Popular Post Boudrias
My bio Dad died when I was 19. I miss out on a lot of those man to man talks I always dreamt of. My Dad wasn't very open to me. I have found out that this was common with WW2 vets. Now my father-in-law, totally different story. Big smile whenever he saw me and always good for a chin wag full of stories and advice. When he passed I inherited a lot of his tools. Today I scabbed a nut and bolt from my 'odds and sods" jar. Couldn't find a proper size rachet head until I went into John's kit. Sure enough there it was and the job got done. Of course I was talking to him all the job long. Can't help smiling as I remember some of his stories. 1 3 3

I totally relate to finding that right item I need. It's happened many times. Ha, I talk to him too while I fudge my way through my home improvement tasks. 3 2 1
Popular Post PetterssonOrPeterson
Thinking of all the dads that drop their kids off at sports practices before work, teaching us how to fend for ourselves and always being a wise example for us to follow. Whether they are still with us or have moved on, we'll have an eternal bond with our awesome dads. Happy Father's day. 1 6 2
Popular Post allegend
I enjoyed reading all of the memories and tributes. I usually have mixed feelings on Father's Day. My 3 children, now young adults, always give me cards and gifts. We get together for lunch, and have a pleasant day. My dad was also a World War 2 vet. He didn't like to talk much about the war either. Unfortunately, he died in an accident when I was 13. I wish I could have spent many more Father's Days with him. 1 3 1

Popular Post Ghostsof1915
I think I'm at the age were I doubt I'll be a father. I miss having lunch at the pub with my Dad. I found out a lot more about him during those lunches than any other time. But my sister is correct. He gave the greatest airplane rides when we were little. When I was sick, he would be there. When I needed him he was there. He was sad about the divorce. He really loved us. But it was probably a better thing, because my Mom and him would fight like cats and dogs over the dumbest stuff. RIP Dad. I'll have a scotch in your honour tonight. 1 3 1 3

To all the Dad's on CDC have a great day. My dad got to 87. I was there for his last breath. He was critically wounded going up the beach on D- day. The doctors told him he might live into his forties if he moved to a warmer climate. He was the kindest, gentlest man I have ever known. I visit his and mums grave, they are buried together, every month and put fresh flowers on it. 1 1
Popular Post Muttley
Cancer took my Dad when he was only 77. He fought it so hard. That's the way he led his life. Always doing the best job he could. Not a day goes by I don't think of him and I doing something together. He loved it when Pat Quinn was coaching the Canucks. RIP, Dad.
