Not very big though, so he and Jack would be skating for their lives out of trouble. If anything, Bear is (slightly) vertically challenged at 5' 11" (as is Rathbone), but he appears to have decent weight. Lots of folks are/were going on about Woo (who I think will still make it to the NHL) and he's only one inch taller and around the same weight. The only ifs I have is, is there anyone else available who is bigger, and can do the same job (or better) for less money/term? If not, why not kick the tires? He was getting $2 million per for his last contract. regards, G.

We already allocated that money to dermott. The rest is to actually upgrade important min munching positions, Not add an abundance of other teams failed small rfas. That is all we have done for 10 years and people still want more of it!!! Man oh man It's like that 3$ coffee that adds up everyday. All these 1.5-2m guys we love to add who don't bring much add up to soo much wasted money

If we add bear that's now 4 out of 6/7 dmen are tiny! Not happening. Better players go on the waiver wire for 900k and free 1

If Bear is capable of playing as a solid defense first bottom-6, for not a huge amount of cash, then I'd gladly take him over someone whose chief mark in his favor was that he is "big". Big, mobile, with some hockey smarts and good puck handling ability on the other hand... IMHO - Rathbone will either get some opportunity as the 3LD at the start of the season, or he'll spend his time in the AHL. Depending on who is available to the team as a 3LD will determine Rathbone's fate here. Maybe just for cap/contracts/waivers reasons he'll be back in Abbotsford. Perhaps that is unfair to him, and perhaps he will ask for a trade, which may well be coming. Rathbone won't be getting top-4 time without one of Ekman-Larsson and Hughes are injured, and he isn't going to get much opportunity to develop at an NHL level in the Canucks' bottom pairing. regards, G. I'm not sold at all on bear. We don't need anymore feel good stories. We don't need other teams projects. If Bear is going to be your 6/7.. you are a fringe team at best. Canes are a dominant team and Bear can't even solidify his spot on the 3rd pair. Scraping the bottom of the barrel for multiple time cast aways is the pay we need to STOP making. Waste of time, Waste of money. Now those couple young swede signings are what we should be doing as project players because it doesn't drag down our NHL roster banking on a what if. I would use bone and a winger to get a good rhd Edited June 21, 2022 by Mustard Tiger

This being said, there's probably a reason that a guy with that size was traded away from Tampa Bay, and was only making around NHL minimum... regards, G. Personally I would look at Haydn Fleury out of Seattle as a possible bottom 6 guy/reclamation project
