Pacioretty (25% retained)

Hague

For

Pearson

4th round pick

25% on Pacioretty + Pearson = 5M

Pacioretty was near ppg.  Would expect a few teams to be willing to take back Pacioretty at his full cap hit.  A team like Detroit wants to take the next step and he could be traded further at the TDL (- that's what they did with Leddy).  Nashville might not be able to sign Forsberg and he would be a solid replacement as a 1-year rental if the acquisition cost is low.  Gives time for some prospects to develop further.

Ferlands contract and a 3rd for Hague.

Per the tweet in OP there are 2 teams in the east particular interested.  Surely they can offer a 3rd round pick, without burdening VGK with an LTIR contract and restricting their cap space even more.

No team will be willing to help them out with the cap hell they’ve created.

Any team helping them get cap compliant will be looking for serious sweeteners, Yzerman included.

Pacioretty is near ppg.  Anaheim was willing to help Vegas out by taking Dadonov for only a 2nd round pick.  He could help a team like Detroit, Anaheim stay somewhat competitive as they continue to rebuild and they can then flip him for assets at the TDL.  If Nashville loses Forsberg, he would be a solid 1 year option to buy time for their prospects to continue to develop.

Unfortunately ferland contract was uninsurable therefor his 3.5 million cap hit is 2.75 million is real dollars on the teams payroll. Makes that contract wayyyyyyyyyyy harder to move. Maybe we can Jetson it at the trade deadline once most of it is paid off so that we can pay bonuses and bank cap for the next season.

For

Pearson

4th round pick

Vegas would be looking to clear cap space, so they wouldn't want Pearson.

I'd do that 4th round pick alone and take back Pacioretty in full to get Hague.  As long as we can clear some cap space of our own and the Miller trade happens.  If we are not in a playoff hunt at the deadline we can flip Pacioretty with retention for a 2023 pick.

If Miller does get traded we have to be realistic and understand that trading your best player means you will be taking a step back.  I know Allvin says he doesn't want to do that but what exactly does he expect if you trade out 100 points from your lineup?

Aren't they already in LTIR with the Weber trade? Doubt they're going to be clearing enough cap to get out of it. And that Weber deal would be costly to move...they would have been better off just paying the price to move Dadanov in the first place.

At this point, they're likely better off with adding LTIR and just dealing with it for the year (as it appears they're already resigned to). Ferland with one year remaining could fit that bill.

You think Vegas cares about cash?

Could certainly use the abrasiveness he's been employing over the last couple of years. A commodity needed for success.

Hague for Rathbone plus something else?

They save on cap hit and we have the start of a nice shut down 3rd pairing that could take on tough minutes to free up OEL for more offensive duties where he is more suited.  It also lets Hughes play a few less minutes 5v5 to save him.

Move Miller that brings back a RHD like Carlo or Schneider and that is a good looking D core suddenly

Hughes-Carlo

OEL-Myers (or replacement)

Hague-Schenn

Burroughs

Ot if we think OEL can move to the right side as is being bandied about…

Hughes-Carlo

Hague-OEL

Dermott-Schenn

Burroughs

Can't see them doing a favour to Vancouver and take Ferland for nothing.   They can do the deal with another team without taking back an LTIR contract.  Adding an LTIR contract doesn't help their cap situation - if they are stuck with Weber, at best they can hope for it to be neutral but it might also complicate maximising their LTIR relief.

They are probably hoping to find a team that needs to reach the floor.  Boychuk was moved in season because Buffalo traded Eichel and could no longer reach the floor.  With 4 years left might be difficult.

They're already in LTIR. They will almost cretainly be in LTIR for the season. Taking Ferland isn't "doing us a favour", it's giving them another $3.5m to utilize.

Ferland still counts against the cap.  Taking back his contract doesn't create cap space.  It's 100% a favour to Vancouver - there's no benefit for Vegas to add Ferland and it might even complicate maximising their relief.
