CRAZY_4_NAZZY
Fedotov was signed in May in hopes that he could be in the running for the Flyers backup duty. Scary times. You have to wonder for the Russian players that have returned home from the NHL will see the same fate. I hope Russian players especially Podkolzin, Kuzmenko, other russian NHL players and their family are safe. 1

higgyfan
I didn't know that Russia had a draft. I don't like the ramifications of this for other young Russian players.
-AJ-
Gross. Has to be worrying for other KHL prospects. If anyone wants to play in the NHL, they wouldn't sign with CSKA now.
Down by the River
2022 Draft-Eligible Valdamir Gudinin plays for CSKA. Was anticipated to be a late-first/early second-round pick. Have to imagine that this BS changes things for him. Artyom Duda and Kirill Dolzhenkov also play for CSKA's affiliates. Alflives
Similar circumstances to Kuzmenko, isn’t it? Guy signs to come play here. Kuz should get out of there. 1

Therefore, termination of contracts by team members may be considered illegal. Technically no, sounds like CSKA Moscow is military governed. SKA St. Petersburg doesn't appear to be but literally the team name is known as "Sport Club of the Army". ---- https://phillyhockeynow.com/2022/07/01/philadelphia-flyers-ivan-fedtov-goalie-arrested-dodging-draft-felix-sandstrom-russia/ Quote According to Fontanka.ru, the police department of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region received an official arrest request from the military prosecutor’s office, stating there were “sufficient grounds to consider Fedotov an army draft dodger.” Fedotov reportedly could face up to two years in prison. Scary stuff. Edited July 1, 2022 by CRAZY_4_NAZZY 1

Muttley
No idea if this could affect Kuzmenko. Don't think so. I would assume this could have an effect on the up and coming NHL draft though. Those young players wouldn't be affected yet but sure as heck would be later. Russia has taken such a step backwards in all regards.
VegasCanuck
So, I'm guessing that any Russian players eligible for the entry draft next weekend, are going to fall in the draft to where it's worth taking a chance that you can get them out of Russia at some point. Russia is sliding back 40 years into the real cold war era of relations with North America and the rest of the world.

It seems that has not changed to this day.

Ghostsof1915
I guess that's one way of getting the NHL not to draft Russian players. Edited July 1, 2022 by Ghostsof1915

higgyfan
It seems odd that the military picked up a player who is 25 yrs old. I wonder if he has some kind of previous commitment to the army. If it's due to his recent signing; well there are others in the same position (Kuzemenko). We'll see if this is a specific situation, or if it will escalate over the off season in the NHL.
