Rumor: Tavares Part of a Deal With Canucks?

Recommended Posts

Would anyone here do it in exchange for OEL's contract?

2.75 million more on the cap and it would leave our defense in absolute shambles, but it would be off the books two years earlier than OEL and would give us our Miller replacement in the short term.

Nah, OEL fills a bigger need to this team

Not suggesting this is actually legit… but the way it’s reported that Canucks are « «involved » doesn’t suggest Tavares will end up here but rather be involved as a third party.

just don’t see how the Canucks would be involved in a 3-way deal also…

I think Dubas would rather die on his hill (their 4 core) than move one of them. For some reason, he thinks with the 4 forwards he has assembled, they can do without a 3C, a goalie and a legit shut down specialist. Tavares is already an anchor contract. Matthews and Marner are both overpaid considering their lack of playoff success and Nyland is a perimeter player, afraid to go into the corners during playoffs.

Highly unlikely any of these core 4 are moved. Dubas wil be fired next spring after another 1st rnd exit.

I had heard something recently to the effect that the Canucks were in some fairly serious trade talks involving teams and players that hadn’t been mentioned in any of the rumours to-date, and that the details would really surprise the fanbases, but hopefully this isn’t it.

Unless we’re talking some serious salary retention on Tavares and giving up very little, in terms of prime assets, from our side.

to PIT - Tavares (20% retained by TOR) - to replace Malkin

to TOR - Miller

to VAN - Marino, Poulin and #21 (2022)

* possible added pieces included

Something like this is the only kind of thing that would make sense, and I hate the idea of Miller as a Leaf… I hope Canucks don’t pull something like it.

Why wouldn’t we just do that deal with Pittsburgh? Why cut the Leafs in?

Something tells me they’d prefer to have Miller over Tavares.

This is literally the only tweet, post, anything on any site aligning Tavares and the Canucks.

media be throwing s*** at the wall to see what sticks.

This has nothing to do with media. It's a tweet by a random person, not working in media with few followers, that someone posted.

Tavares fits their timeline better.  He has 3 years left, same as Crosby.  Miller they would need to extend 6-7 years...
