(Rumour) PHI D Ryan Ellis’ career may be over

Flyers Dman Ryan Ellis’ career may be over

Per Anthony SanFilipo

Basically has stated that he is 100% certain that Ellis won’t be starting the season or even begin to consider playing again until halfway through, and at that point in time will reevaluate his future.  The issue is to do with his pelvis.

Ellis is 31 years old and his contract runs through until 2027 with a 6.25mill AAV.

Big loss for the Flyers and sad to hear if indeed true.

On the flip side, if he is LTIR’d for the start of the season and beyond, that’s a large chunk of available cap to utilize in trying to sign Gaudreau.

I thought he was older than that. I’m so used to him being around and feels like he has been kn the league for a really long time already. 31 is still too early to have to end a career so I hope he can still rehab and return. Maybe take the whole year off?

Millers salary for next year fully covered tho. Myers too. Have to wonder if there's more interest in either now in Philly.

Pelvic fractures are serious.

Coming back to play hockey at the NHL level with that type of injury is daunting. Hope he can make a return and stay healthy while doing it.

this might be one of those where a player has to think about the rest of his life. Do you risk lifetime pain for a a comeback at this point? Listening to guys like Jovo and Ohlund talk about the pain they live with now its pretty sad stuff.

There’s no link, apologies.

I listened to a discussion from PHI media post draft and this was mentioned.

Was there any talk of the Flyers wanting to replace Ellis?

No, not that I recall. It was post draft so the bulk of the convo was about that with some very very brief discussion about FA targets (Gaudreau)

He may never play NHL again, but I doubt he actually retires-until his contract is over.

LTIR-player gets paid, and the team keeps rolling.

4 more years at 6.25 per? Yeah no chance I’d “retire” early either

U know what I meant mannn lol he’s not gonna play again for a player that’s retirement it’s brutal. It sucks. He was blessed to have his career and be as good as he was but just sucks

Great trade for Philly

Had he stayed healthy it would have been highway robbery by the flyers. Philip Myers is looking like a buyout candidate and Nolan Patrick is a 3rd line center with health issues of his own.
