Proposal [Not Miller]

I don't think Miller is getting traded. All signs point to us being under mandate to make the playoffs. So operating on this assumption we go the tweak route. Biggest area we need to address is our PK. Top4 4 RHD is a pipe dream so lets move on. We need to get Hughes off the PK. I commend him for putting in work and helping to take our PK out of legendary worst status. But there are better uses for Hughes abilities than standing infront of slapshots. 

 

Trade #1 

To Carolina: Myers 1m retained.

To Van Aleksi Heimosalmi + Bear's rights. 

 

Carolina only have Pesce on the Right side they aren't done gunning for a cup. They would absolutely love to add vastly underrated on this board Myers @ 5m.  

We get Heimosalmi one of my absolute favorite players from last years draft. And Bear hear me out on the Right we have Schenn Dermott Burr. All decent defensive guys but not great puck movers. MGMT has expressed interest in adding another puck carrier Bear fits the bill if we're digging in the bargain bin. Trying to shed Cap.

 

Trade #2

To Wpg: Garland + 2nd

To Van: PLD Extend him! He will break out 

It's really hard for WPG to find guys willing to play there on good contracts.  PLD is RFA and wants out or he's going to hold them over a barrel. Garland is on a great contract through his prime.

 

Trade #3

To CBJ Hoglander + Rathbone

To Van Gavrikov + 2nd

They get 2 exciting young players with great upside that can play now sell tickets. Admittedly they probably win this trade in the long term.  The Canucks get a guy we really need. I'd love to go after Peeke but I don't think there's a chance they move him. Gavrikov however is less exciting but I think that is a good thing. He has come up slowly from the 6th round getting better and better each year he has quietly become one of the top defensive D around the league. I don't think they are though.  

 

Garland 4.95m only plays 5v5 and @ 5v5 had more g17 more a30, than PLD 9g 17a by nearly double. While PLD actually logged more icetime 5v5 than Garland.

Trade #1: When you said Baer, at first I thought you meant Baertschi...but you meant Ethan Bear right? No thanks. I think Poolman is a better defender than Bear, so I'd rather keep Myers, or roll with Poolman/Dermott on our 2nd pairing if we really need to desperately move out cap (which we don't really need to do).

 

Trade #2: I can't see WPG going for that. They really need a top 6 center to replace PLD.

 

Trade #3: Gavrikov is about ten times better than Peeke. He would actually be a decent top 4 RD (has played both sides, or Hughes shifts to RH side) instead of Bear. You might be onto something there...but it will cost more than Hogs + Bones for Gav imo...even though Gavrikov is UFA after next season.

 

Actually wonder if there might be a trade with CBJ in there somewhere. They are clearly a young rebuilding team with the likes of Sillinger, Johnson, Roslovic, Werenski, Boqvist, Peeke. They just added Jiricek and Mateychuk at the draft. I'd love to take Boone Jenner off their hands (although he is their captain and a key mentor) signed for 4 years at $3.75m but his age doesn't really fit in CBJ; plus Gavrikov is UFA after next season and may be at risk of walking. Both those guys would be potential fits in our top 4 RD and as our 3C.

 

I wonder if something like this would get it done...

 

To VAN: Jenner + Gavrikov

To CBJ: Garland + Hoglander + Rathbone

 

The age of Hogs and Rathbone fits CBJ perfectly. Garland a bit older but is signed long term and plenty of years left.

I really like Garland so this would be a tough one.   PLD ... does that mean ... this secretly IS a Miller thread!    Wow that C depth .... We'd have one year of something special for sure.    I agree our PK needs help, and that starts with better defensive players.    I'm still hoping we can make a trade (anytime this summer), and make a pitch for Manson.    Won't cost us anything but cap (hello Myers?).   Garland for sure has value...he's also important to us given Brocks new contract and future.  

 

This is a well thought out and good thread, I like the guys your targeting.   I also agree we don't have to be so concerned about the right side IF we do something to upgrade our PK somewhere else.    Rathbone i believe has a good chance to make the NHL as a Stetcher type (at least, with a shot to also be a PMD that moves the needle, a solid third pairing PP specialist) ... too bad he doesn't play the right side.

I really like Garland but I think if we can turn him into PLD we should look at that. I don't think Miller gets traded I think we are going for it playoffs baby. I think it's highly likely that "Miller is" our playoff rental and goes UFA at the end of the year. I think that would be fine not ideal but fine if he wants to much let another team make the mistake. If we had PLD I don't think we would be so desperate to sign Miller.

Im not very high on Aleksi and Bear is a gamble. He wasn't that a good defensively this season in Carolina. I still see the potential there and think he could. But he could very well be a downgrade on what Myers provides to us.

 

If we were able to acquire another Dman like Peeke I would be open to it to free up some cap space though.

 

PEG Trade

 

I just dont think this offer is good enough. Im high on garland and think he could be 70 pt guy with PP time and on the right line/ deployment. But PLD is a big young 2nd line C with Draft pedigree.

 

Cannot see them making this trade.

 

CLB Trade

 

Low key really like Gavrikov. Thats a lot to give up for him so I would say its more realistic of an offer.

 

With Boqvist and now Jiricek maybe they'd be more willing to move Peeke. But its nice for them to be able to slide Peeke with Werenski or put him With Bean on the bottom pairing. They have a lot of flexibility with their d partners for this season coming up. And I dont think Jiricek will be ready to go.

 

Would suck to lose Rathbone but Gavrikov is someone I have time for. Too bad he's not Right handed!

Getting Garland on a great contract through his prime is probably one of the better offers they could hope for. I hope I'm wrong though I like Garland and I closet cheer for WPG. I guess we will see if they can do better.

That’s an interesting perspective. If we pulled that off Garland for PLD would be nuts.

 

i can’t see a world we extend miller and get PLD though. Are you having miller extended in this scenario or jus playing out the year?

Plenty of teams pay what we paid for Miller for rentals. If we missed our window to trade him for a big return we should at least use him to the fullest. We paid a late 1st and a 3rd for him right? Lets milk all the value out of that trade if we can't get the home run trade for him.
