[Speculation] Pagnotta: Mackenzie Weegar trade possible

Excellent top 2/4 pairing if we can snag him. Won't be cheap.

Team needs to start offloading all that aging vet/salary bloat asap with ALL these players not being qualified/up for a trade

One thing we know now is the new management group doesn’t do ASAP.

Would be a perfect partner for Hughes, he's a solid all around defenceman, put up 44 points and a +40 in the regular season and really stepped up when Ekblad went down. His cap hit is currently around 3M but he's going to be due a big raise next year so (like Miller) they'll probably think of moving him while his value his high.

I don't see them able to take any cap back and they'd surely try a bit of a cap dump here. Hornqvist is the obvious guy there.

Question is, who do they want from the Canucks? Miller doesn't make much sense because they won't be able to re-sign him.

How about Garland + Rathbone for Weegar + Hornqvist? Garland's on a good contract as is Rathbone who is on the cusp and ready to eat 15 minutes. A team like Florida need to try and get some cap friendly contracts and this saves them around 3M.

As for the Canucks:

Pettersson - Miller - Boeser

Kuzmenko - Horvat - Podkolzin

Pearson - UFA - Hornqvist

Highmore - Lammikko - Lockwood

Hughes - Weegar

OEL - Myers

Dermott - Schenn

Maaaaaan I would freak if we could somehow get him. Ever since Ekblad went down, he has shown an ability to step up as a 1-2 dman and I love his physicality to boot. He and Huggie would be filthy for years.

Miller -33% for Weegar, Samoskevich and Florida's 2nd 2023 for the cap retention. Both teams allowed to put feelers one extensions before the deal. Florida stacks up for a run; Vancouver gets their long-term top pairing D. Equal cap moving both ways.

Been a while since FLA/VAN had a blockbuster . Let's go

Probably will not get Samo in that proposal with how valuable Weegar is, but I would do it if we had to retain since Millsy has a reasonable hit. Weegs is EXACTLY what we need to fit in our Cup window with both age and future monies (especially if we can somehow shed Myers).

miller for Weegar and 2nd please

So they may not be able to keep Weegar because they won’t be able to afford his extension next season but they’ll trade him for Miller? (who will require an even bigger extension). Explain the logic of that to me.

Guess I'm in the minority. Weegar didn't impress me all that much in the playoffs. I don't really see the fit to be honest. I'd rather see a cheaper, defensive defenseman with Hughes. Weegar will not be cheap to re-up after this season either. I don't see the fit.
