We couldn’t do a lot and we did pretty well given our restrictions.
‘Adding Kuz, Mikheiv could really improve the middle 6. Lazar as a tough 4th line C that is good on faceoffs and shoots rights is worth a try. Always like the local guy coming home story, sometimes it even works out.

‘Improved PK was very important.
‘Haven’t been able to move any of our D so no room to really add anyone.
‘Hope they can at least shake up the D a little.

yup given the constraints we made some real improvements. Quieted down most of the naysayers too.

I don't think they are done, they can now turn to concentrating on trade options around Myers and/or Miller.

I think we need to put us in the W column:

I couldn't include us in the win column simply because of a few glaring issues still being unresolved:

-didn't address the Miller situation

-didn't address the RHD situation

-didn't create the elusive cap flexibility

-didn't get any additional high-end prospects or picks into the system

Not saying we lost, but as Dr.J said,  we were pretty limited in what we were going to be able to do without unloading some contracts.

According to a Toronto media outlet, they were winners and the Flames and Canucks losers.

Toronto propaganda.  The media there will not get access to any players or team personnel unless they write that all is good and Dubas is wonderful.  Mikheyev was their best player in the playoffs.  Campbell is a far superior goalie to Murray.  Leafs a huge losers and always will be.

I think we need to put us in the W column:

- top KHL free agent (Kuz)

- F huge speed and good size upgrade (Mik)

- more 4th line grit in Lazar and maybe Joshua.

We might have the deepest F group in our division now.

Didn't burn a pick or prospect.

I'd call that a win.

how's the Canucks D

Really? They lost Kase and Mikayev today. Their D did not improve, they signed a barely average backup. How the F did they win the day and we lost the day. We got tougher to play against, faster, bigger. F off. Its why we hate the Leafs.

Winners

Ottawa (should be better this season)

Detroit - thought they quietly improved

Losers

Calgary - still time to pick up or make a trade, but does Tkachuk go as well if he loses his linemate?

Undecided

Columbus (snagged Johnny Hockey but signed Gudbranson to a long term contract?)

Biggest loser - Calgary. Pretty damning that Johnny G would take a discount to play in COLUMBUS over themselves given last year's standings positions. Not sure if that's an indictment on management, the coach, the city, or all of the above, but that's reputation hit and hockey hit - 2 for 1 special.

LOL, I actually found that article online.  The writer clearly doesn't have a clue who Ilya Samsonov is because that was his basis for declaring the Leafs a "winner" in free agency.  According to him, the Murray/Samsonov tandem will be better than Campbell/Mrazek.  He's in for a cruel dose of reality when he actually sees Samsonov in a game.

As for why the Canucks were "losers": guy only said the Canucks didn't move Miller and in his opinion, the Canucks roster is not a playoff team.

So yeah, this guy doesn't know WTF he's talking about.
