[Signing] Capitals sign Dylan Strome

Dylan Strome will be their 1C replacement for the injured Backstrom? If so, they may not make the playoffs.

Wouldn't Kuznetsov fill in the minutes that Backstrom will miss?

I get your point, and I'm not saying Strome is the answer but I can understand why the Capitals would take a 1-year flyer on Strome.  He put up respectable offensive numbers with CHI last year and could still be a potent offensive player at the NHL level.  Much cheaper option than attempting a trade.

can we just do the obvious thing and retain our own talent?

Can we? Maybe. Will we? That's the real question. Thus far talks haven't gone all that well from what's been reported, both sides are a ways off.

Gaudreau had a preference for the US, time will tell if Miller does too but it's a very real possiblity.

A lot of the potential spots for JT have gone the cheap route and they will regret it. I can't believe teams aren't clamoring to add a power forward like JT, with his contract. Reminds me of when the Tanev to the Leafs rumors were flying way back and the Leafs wouldn't offer up anything legit for Tanev. That was a big mistake that may well have cost them a playoff round or more.

I'm not sure they've really begun. 'lil Johnny should be the ceiling. Kardi the floor. If thats the range, then its what term can we live with?

People talk a lot about what 'good teams' do, and one thing I've noticed is they tend to try to retain their best players. So lets try that thing.

I guess so.

It willing be entertaining for about 5 minutes.

if we had a prospect pipeline with... oh whats the word... depth? I could go along with the idea of stepping back for a year or two, but we just don't. Its very clear Miller isn't going to fill that trade gap either. I just don't see how its not a 3-4 year job to restock the prospect pool to the point where kids are ready to step in and play.

Could be that Allvin's ask is very high...
