Adding Marino gives more time for a prospect to develop rather than have him play too high in the lineup and hurt their chances of getting into the post-season. Goaltending is still a big question mark - they can't go with the D-corps they had last season. Not sure they will want to remove Severson just yet. He’s not a very good defensive defenseman though. And at 28 might only have 4 prime years left. Id rather get a young forward from them over Severson. Look at how much Marino cost. What if they offered Severson and a 1st? Severson had defensive deficiencies early in his career, but I think you're underrating him in that regard currently. He keeps getting better. He might be interested in a long-term deal in Vancouver, playing with Hughes and OEL. More so than sharing minutes with Hamilton in New Jersey. Interestingly, Ty Smith was 7th in Calder voting in 2020-21, and Hoglander was right behind him at 8th. I'm guessing though that they wanted a Severson replacement more than another winger.
