[Signing] Panthers sign Chris Tierney

Damn. We couldn't have got him for quite that low due to taxes, but damn.

I dunno but it feels like there’s lots of unsigned guys of his level still available.

I think we end up signing Rodrigues on the cheap.

We could have signed him for double that and it would be a good deal.  He would be insulation in case Dickenson doesn't bounce back and give us another solid PKer who can also pot in a few.

There are always useful vets at this time a few days into free agency that start getting worried they won't end up with a chair when the music stops.

I hope so, but still would have really liked Tierney on this deal.

I mean at that price he probably could have chosen anywhere.

Probably wanted to go to a contender.

Yep, I agree with this. A little surprised they cheaped out and gave him less in the AHL and he stilled signed, but w.e.

Janmark or Rodrigues would be great vet additions who can play bottom-6 C if they end up having to wait it out a bit longer on the market, or if the Canucks clear a winger contract. 1.7-1.9 for either on a 2-3 year deal would be great.

This also tells me it is going to

be near impossible to shed cap.

Tierney is a solid 3rd line player and signed for peanuts.  Marino is a legit top 4D on a decent cap hit and he got traded for almost nothing.

On the other side in that environment, if we were willing to retain 50% on Miller he should be worth a crazy return.

Yea, this is not an easy summer for cap space, figured so since the Pacioretty dump. Gonna be some decent players who take less if they wanna play on a playoff team for sure.

All the more reason to bury Dickinson in the minors so the Canucks can get about $1.5M cap relief for the next couple of seasons.

On Miller - gonna be a bonanza for him at the TDL with 50% cap retention. Whether or not the Canucks are in the playoff hunt, Miller will have to be moved at the TDL if he hasn't signed an extension by that time (apologies for stating the obvious).

Chris Tierney at $1.0M one way cap hit would have been a great deal for the Canucks and allowed them to be competitive with the Panthers' deal, but I'd rather have a RHC Lazar at that cap hit.
