Well we wouldn’t need that in that scenario. Those are our needs if we trade miller. not saying it’s not possible but trading Myers out and trading for a better rhd isn’t that easy is it?

so a team is going to give us a better rhd or a younger sure thing for Myers and some sweeteners?

Myers is an offensive RHD being asked to play defensively. The round peg in a square hole scenario. IF he was paired with a defensive LHD, he could showcase his skills more. In Van, we have the opposite problem; too many offensive Dmen, and one on a cheap contract (Rathbone). Myers has value to the right team, maybe even Seattle as some have suggested. A Myers + sweetener (pick, Hogs, etc) for Larrson is not absurd. Such a move would help us longterm and get us closer to cap compliance.

Holy crap… they just walked him to free agency next summer.  He gets to pick a 1 year term on whatever the award is.

Time to blow it up in Calgary.  I guess we will take Tanev back with 50% retained to help them out :)

St Louis lining up an offer for him I bet.

It's automatically a 1-year award as he only has 1 RFA year left.

They are also preventing him from signing his qualifying offer - it's 9M that he could have signed till 22 July and then walk next summer.  Now they can hope for a deal or a 1-year settlement (which was already the case before they filed), or a trade where he could sign a long term extension with his new team.

So, unofficial word on this is that the Flames did this as they believed that Tkachuk was about to sign his qualifying offer for 9 million, 1 year, which would have allowed him to become a UFA next summer.

The Flames did this to buy time and try and either work out a longer term extension, which he seems reluctant to sign, or to trade him somewhere that he will sign long-term with and not lose him for nothing next summer.

If the Flames are going into what's essentially, a forced rebuild, maybe we should see if they want to ship Tanev back here??? He was a really good partner for Hughes.

This whole issue could probably use it's own thread as it looks like Calgary may be forced to trade Tkachuk before the start of next season.

Yep, it was a desperation move.  I don't know how it helps them, if they haven't been able to come to an agreement by this point how does an extra few weeks help.

It would certainly be pretty amazing to have Tanev back, though I bet he could garner them a decent return now and not just be a cap dump so we might not be in that market.

They sure did Calgary a little favour putting Tkachuk on the last day to give them extra time to try and trade him

I really like Trenin. 17 goals last year, all even strength. 191 hits, will fight - if only he wasn’t terrible at faceoffs, then he’d be a perfect bottom-6 guy.

to be fair, he played wing all last year. Would be a great RH addition to a lot of teams' bottom six. 3 goals in 4 playoff games last year nothing to sneeze at either
