KevRat
2 trades to get better and younger. Colorado gets: JT Miller Vancouver gets: Bowen Byram Why Colorado does this: Colorado is dynamite. An absolute train. But they are underestimating the value lost with Kadri gone. JT Miller more than replaces him, all while not screwing up their cap situation for Mackinnon next year. Byram had his coming out party in the SCF but prior to that, he was a bit player with a concussion history. He only got his chance when Girard broke his sternum. Why Vancouver does this: JT Miller is a big loss that need to get big return for. Byram looks like more of a sure thing than any late first rounder. He is dynamic and retainable. Chicago gets: Tyler Myers, CHI 2023 2nd Vancouver gets: Seth Jones (10% retained) Why Chicago does this: Total rebuild. They took a chance signing him long term and it failed. His analytics took a big hit playing on that roster. Chicago is now in the hunt for #1 next year. They also are ridding themselves of expensive contracts. That long term commitment will cost them the 33rd overall pick next year as well. Why Vancouver does this: Tyler Myers is fine. But Seth Jones alongside Quinn Hughes could be a pairing in 2026 for USA. Big strong mobile RD is exactly what Quinn needs to take the next step into the Norris conversation. Hughes - Jones OEL - Byram Dermott - Schenn THOUGHTS?
HKSR
Colorado says NO. Cap issues. Chicago says NO. Way too little value for Jones.
amplified0ne
Byram also has to prove he can stay healthy and is over his concussion issues. Let's say the Canucks get to the trade deadline, probably only getting a 1st (late), maybe a roster player or a-level prospect, b-level prospect. Also as any cup contending team knows, you need extra D bodies to get through the playoffs. The Canucks have no one in the pipeline that fills what Miller brings to the table. Hence why management has indicated they are looking more at extension. We'd need something like Mason McTavish + A-level D prospect in return + pick. Anaheim aint giving up that. If anything, they look at Garland for D swap and its dollars for dollars pretty much.

This solves Colorados cap issue this year and removes a serious complication next off season. And vegas literally added a quality prospect to get rid of 1 year of a 7M point pet game player in pacioretty. Canucks take on a 70 million, 8 year commitment that played poorly last year. Jersey is deep on RD, what about something like: To NJ: Garland To Vancouver, Reilly Walsh and 2023 2nd round pick I think with Nemec, Walsh is expendable and I think he's pushing for a spot this year. I think NJ either has to move him or risk losing him on waivers coming out of camp.

How does this solve Colorado's cap issue this year? They're adding $5M+ to their books and subtracting under $1M. That means they're adding net $4M+ to their books which puts them over the cap. Jones didn't play poorly. He played well on a terrible team. He had 50+ points from the blue line while being an imposing RHD with size. If he gets moved, it'll be for multiple futures (think 1st, 1st, 2nd level deal). PS - Pacioretty is 6 years old than Seth. Seth Jones is just entering his prime. Colorado could do it. they Have nearly 4m capspace we retain a lil bit or take 1 of Cogliano/Helm. We basically hand them another cup I want them to add a 2025 2nd and 3rd hopefully by then they are in cap trouble and we are adding picks during our window to use as trade fodder.

Byrams cap doesn't come off the books they have to slot another player into his spot. but Cap shouldn't be an issue they are close enough to being able to do this that a slight retention or a contract coming back would make it work. They also only have 11 forwards on the roster right now. Mind you they have 8 defencemen. So they still need to add a net of 1 more player to their roster. Say he's about $1M or less. They have $2.9M to work with then. We would have to retain 50% on Miller to make it work.

Alflives
Yes to Byram. No to Jones. We already have OEL making too much. Don’t need at add the WAY OVERPAID Jones.

I do think you are undervaluing Conor with this proposal though. Reilly is not a sure thing over and above 3rd pairing. IBatch
I've been saying Byram for Miller for a year now (even when his future was in doubt)... It's a solid move for both clubs. They need to fill the Kadri hole, and if we give them Rathbone too we could even get something else. Retain on Miller if we must.. And agree we probably just hand them another cup. After this year, they enter some cap pain. Sakic knows this.

Phil_314
Jones would be intriguing but too expensive. Rather just see us try for Connor Murphy.
