RWJC
Good. At least resolve that part and have something tangible contract wise to trade him with.
Popular Post Wilbur
The NHL is starting to get an NBA vibe where players are dictating where they will or won't play. I get it, they have that power/right, and if I was lucky enough to be in that position I'd want that power too. But still, it sucks for these franchises and I feel bad for the Jets and their fans. 2 9 1 1

I don’t follow the NBA too closely but it seems like such a farce. Trying to get together with your buddies to create a super team like it’s PE class. I remember when Kariya and Selanne both went to the Avs that one year and had statistically crappy seasons. I was so glad they didn’t win. 6 4 2

Teams try to trade for star players to get super teams, why can't players choose who they want to play with and where they want to play if they are free agents? It's a business. There is no farce. It’s a bit of a farce when you’re doing that while under contact and basically undermine who’s paying you without penalty to your income. again though, it is business. It’s up to the owners to figure out how to ratify the CBA so they can protect themselves…from themselves. erkayloomeh
Isn't it an assumption he's going to Montreal?

Well, yes, but the NBA’s got players with character, while NHL players are relatively the same mold.

Pat Brisson was asked if Dubois would consider MTL as it's his hometown team. Brisson answered like Montreal is a place he'd consider, but we can't talk about that now. Only the latter half made it into headlines

Definitely an unintended consequence of a hard cap for the NHL. If the money is relatively equal anywhere they play due to teams having the same amount of money to spend… then wouldn’t you rather spend your life in Anaheim rather than a Winnipeg? They could allow an exception where your own drafted players can make X% more with their home team that doesn’t count against the cap, or a franchise player tag that does the same thing. On the other side, trades and that sort of action is good for the game. We sit around talking about it for months… even without games to be played. 1

It’s a farce when it undermines a club’s ability to compete - especially under a hard cap system where the draft, good value contracts and RFA grant such a competitive advantage. Right now, thankfully Gaudreau, Tkachuk and Dubois situations are relatively rare… but imagine if players regularly worked to get themselves immediately to UFA only to sign cheaper deals and chase championships in a few select markets / with certain premier players? Or made it public, “I will only sign here or here once I reach UFA” and evaporate all their trade value? (Haha Tkachuk did still land a nice price though!) That would be terrible for a league striving for parity. Edited July 23, 2022 by ilduce39 1

So a player signs a contract of their own free will and then changes their mind for whatever reason, you don't think there's any responsibility on behalf of said player to honor the contract they willingly put their name on? I'm not talking about free agents, I'm talking about players under contract trying to pull the strings because they regret signing. That is a farce. 1
VegasCanuck
Basically guaranteeing himself that he will be traded. If not, he could just as easily sign his QO next year and put himself in position to be a UFA.
