[Speculation] Kadri Watch: 'Rumblings' Islanders have made a push for Nazem

So both Huberdeau and now Kadri have signed deals that bring them to age 38.  So remind me again why Miller is only going to sign a 6 year deal at age 30?

Because he is not going to sign for the reported "Kadri" of 7x7. He might get the "Huberdeau" elsewhere, but I don't think so, as it is a horrible contract offered from a uniquely unbalanced bargaining position.

Because not all players are the same and not all players want to sign until they’re 38?

If Miller doesn't want to play until he is 38 he can simply retire and leave the money on the table.  Why would you purposely sign only a 6 year deal when you can get another 2 years guaranteed at top dollar when you are in your prime years, which gives you all the security you need and still allows you to walk away any time you want if you so desire?

I would feel bad for Bailey if he ends up in AZ, thats a lousy way to treat a lifetime player.

Still seems like someone else is going to have to go tho to make the cap work.

It sucks, no question, he's been rock solid fir them

But I'm sure his millions would console him, and they'd probably flip him anyway

UFAs do it all the time.

Some players would rather take it one year at a time at that age.

Also there’s no guarantee a team would offer him 7 years in free agency. If a team was good with that term and his ask someone would have stepped up and traded for him already.

What's this guaranteed top dollar 8 year contract you're speaking of?

Nobody wants any of the players they’d wanna dump though that’s the thing.

Im not sure how they supposedly have all three signed before a trade is made.

That's true that no one wants their players. I think they must have plan A in place, which is something like dumping Bailey to ARI with some serious picks as sweeteners. This gives them $16m in cap space to work with. Then they sign Kadri (7m), Dobson (5m bridge), Romanov (2m) + 2 more depth Dmen = approx. $16m total.

Maybe they have plan B up their sleeves for the possibility that another team offer sheets Dobson. In that case, they will need to match and dump another forward (Beauvillier?...could they have this lined up too?). Or maybe they don't have this lined up and that is why they're staying so silent until Dobson is signed...

NYI has to be trading some players out (Varlamov, Bailey)?

Bailey, pageau, Beauvillier all seem likely candidates to clear cap if Kadrina is signing there long-term.  None of them have full trade protection and all three still have some value to a given team.

Where to?  There's close to no cap space around the league.  Kekaleinen believed that he would be the one adding an asset if he had waited to trade Bjorkstrand.

There's really only 5 teams that can easily take on a 5M contract - Anaheim, Arizona, Chicago, Detroit and Buffalo.  Rebuilding teams that are probably not going to give up their cap space without an add-on.  Chicago and Arizona are even openly tanking.

Lou is going to have to give up a 1st at least to AZ and or Buffalo to move 9.1 mil in cap. AZ also doesn't want to actually get better.

Not sure signing Kadri to 7x7 and giving up a 1st and whatever other assets is really the smartest move by ol Lou, but that division is going to be tough and even getting a wildcard is no guarantee with CBJ retooling. AZ has Lou by his low hanging fruit.

JT Miller for Noah Dobson?   :frantic:

There’s been actual talk of that happening which would be crazy.

mostly though it’s that they have signed extensions in place for their RFAs and likely a Kadri deal already done, but Lou Lam has been holding all of it back from being announced, as per usual
