Yep this Smith kid is the real deal...crazy to think he'll go 5th overall but watching him in this dare I say he challenges to go higher? Smith over Carlsson?

Leonard looks real good out there too, can't go wrong picking any of these guys, they'll all be NHL stars soon. That Eiserman kid is going to be another one, couple years younger than everyone and he looks unreal too.

Sweden vs USA should be an interesting final but I'm giving it to America, that top line is unreal.

Canada plays Sweden today

Smith with a hat-trick right now up to 19 points on the tournament. Kucherov's all-time 21 points in jeopardy. It's a shame Michkov can't play, he had 16 points as a 16 year old so who knows how good the Russians would have been.

Smith vs Dvorsky today will be a really interesting matchup, Leonard will be out there surely trying to shut down Dvorsky as well. Battle of the future 1st rounders, these are the important games - throw out all those multi-point stat boosters for the USA forwards, these are the games that count so I'd put more stock into tonight.

Expecting Dvorsky to surprise everyone and win the matchup but USA to win the game. You know Strbak is going to play like half the game so will be a really good test for him too - again, if he finds a way to shutdown the USA forwards and drop some assists, his value will sky rocket in the draft.

This. I don't think this point can be overstated.

According to this board the following people will be gone before our pick:

1. Bedard

2. Fantilli

3. Carlson

4.Mitchkov

5. Smith

6. Benson

7. Reinbacher

8. Leonard

9. Axel Sandin Pellika

10. Moore

11. Dvorsky

12. Danielson

13. Barlow

14. Sale

see what I’m getting at?

I listened to a Detroit podcast the other day with Tony Ferrari and they were very high on Moore and Danielson.
There description of Danielson made it seem like the perfect 3rd line RHC for the Canucks

realsitically it could come down to
-Dvorsky

-Danielson

-Moore

-Reinbacher

Gabe Perreault probably ahead of guys like Sale and Barlow now

2024 draft should be interesting - Celebrini vs Eiserman will surely be the next big decision, doubt either are generational.

Watching Moore, Leonard and Dvorsky in the same game is a good comparison. Dvorsky is a step above the American duo for that draft ranking.

Exactly, so Sweden vs USA should be interesting

I'm not quite ready to write off Canada yet. Aside from obviously Bedard, Tanner Molendyk, Oliver Bonk and Zach Benson would be huge for this team, but all things considered this is closer to a full team than Canada usually ever has at this tournament. I didn't see the first Sweden game so not sure what happened there, but this Canada game has been coming together the past couple. Sweden has a little better depth overall and especially on defense, but that Celebrini line has been dominant; I'd give them the edge over Sweden's big line with Stenberg and Edstrom. And as good as Erliden has been for Sweden, Bjarnason could steal the game for Canada.

I know Leonard is being advertised as a great two-way center (and he looked real good defensively at the start of the tournament) but boy has he made some dumb Miller-like bad defensive plays in this game...hope Allvin's got a good eye on these games.

At 11 they all have some sort of flaw

Michkov is going to play for Russian national team in the tournament with Belarus and Kazakhstan. First game vs Belarus is on May 2nd.

Yeah nobody quite generational in the 2024 draft, but still pretty strong at the top end. Celebrini is in the same kind of tier as Fantilli or Carlsson. I believe Eiserman is a bit of a step down, I have him 3rd so far behind Kiviharju. The under-aged Finnish defenseman ranks 2nd in this tournament in ATOI behind Max Strbak. I watched Finland - USA at the February 4 Nation U18 tournament and Kiviharju practically single-handedly shut down USA's big line. He just controls the pace and every aspect of the game when he's on the ice.

Also can't forget about the Russian Ivan Demidov, who ranked 3rd in MHL scoring this year and he didn't turn 17 until December.

I wouldn't count Zayne Parekh, Konsta Helenius or Cayden Lindstrom out of the conversation for top two or three spots either.

I would have thought the playoffs would illustrate you need the 3 "S"'s

SIZE

SPEED

SKILL.

We need bigger, faster bodies if we want to not only get into the playoffs, but to do damage in the playoffs.

I'll take a hard working, never take a shift off, bigger, speedier forward over a small skilled, slightly slower forward, that gets easily get knocked off the puck.

I'm fine with Danielson, I hope we can get Reinbacher but I think he'll be gone before we get to pick.

Yes Bedard isn't big. But he's sneaky fast, and supremely skilled. It will be interesting to see what his impact on the NHL is.

I'm ok with trading down if it means picking up Oliver Bonk. Calum Ritchie might even be worth taking a flyer on, if we can pick up a 2nd rounder or late first rounder via trade.

Cool to see Minnetian have a hell of a game in the medal rounds, leading USA in TOI for the 2nd time in the tournament. They really roll the D pairs; at least three different defensemen have led the team in ice time in different games this tournament, and nobody ever plays much over 20 minutes. I think this goes along way in explaining Minnetian's moderate production throughout the year. Add to that the fact that he rarely plays on the top powerplay unit, and I'm willing to overlook the stats enough that based on what I've seen he's still in the mix for the first round in my books.

I'm not surprised, USA Hockey is turning into a well oiled machine. Canada needs to do better. We need better coaches, and much better development. We really need to focus on goaltending. I know it's an expensive sport. Can't Hockey Canada make deals with equipment manufacturer's buying last years hockey gear and getting more kids into hockey? Or work with developing safe, solid gear with more affordable prices?

Willander looking really solid for Sweden, Barlow a few strong plays for Canada. Those big Swedish defencemen ASP, Willander and Lindstein are all so solid, surprised to think that two of them might not make the first round of the draft.

Yup, Willander looking good. Bjarnson kind of blew that save there.
