I didn't see many if any complaining about Canucks drafting Podz at the time. If we had taken Boldy, Wild would likely have taken Podz instead. I wanted Boldy as well. But Podkolzin fell to us at 10, he was projected to go in the top 5 and was always ranked ahead of Boldy on every draft board. Always take BPA. What if we had taken Boldy and then Podkolzin turns into Todd Bertuzzi? After the Virtanen and Juolevi fiasco, we needed to take the BPA... Wood has a similar skating stride to Tage, similar one timer and wrist shot, obviously similar size as well. He'll probably be a late bloomer in the NHL as well. I think Wood will stay in the NCAA for 3 years and then come to the NHL at 21. Will put up 30 goals as a power forward.

Just imagine the uproar had we not taken Podz.... This draft is different as there are some many very good prospects with different attributes, so pending on, what you're after, it may be avaiable even at 11. I like the thought of a rhd but not just fishing for one. Wood sounds intriguing so does Rainbacher, Dvorsky and Leonard. I have a feeling a few of them may be available. i would love it, if we add some size up front and on D as well... I know, its said NHL has changed and speed and skill win, but you need size too, and big power forwards don't come along easily. The fact Wood has put up numbers not seen since Toews, makes Wood a stand out to me. Edited May 5 by spook007 1

I fully agree I also personally really want us to draft size and speed we have some skill we need some size that can not only keep up but push the tempo. As we have seen Pete can turn ahlers into 1st liners looking at you Pederson, Di Guiseppe, I would absolutely love to get a Todd Bertuzzi to ride shotty with him. But maybe we don't have to draft one maybe we sign a few more Dakota Joshuas and one becomes Anson Carter. Hughes Schenn was one of the best value if not the best value pairing in the league. To the whole. No prospect since Towes thing. Gavin Brindley would also like a word. You can probably find him in the 2nd round. Yeah that remains to be seen. Nothing ontowards Lekkerimaki, but we need more beef in amongst our prospects... somebody is needed to clear the space and get the skilled players the puck. here's hoping.

We will see how this draft goes. Fingers and toes crossed for some grit. I see it almost like stealth rebuilding. We aren't going after the Knies you know what I mean? Guys who will be great depth for playoff runs you can call up from the minors while they develop. I see us taking a Benson/Sale super high upside guy. Like if we were in a rebuild those are the guys I would want. Your future franchise guy Zegras/Cooley.

Honzek? Halttunen? But? Edstrom? Stramel? Maybe Simashev? Some outside scouts have been suggesting teams internally are higher on honzek then public lists. I’m really curious whEre he will be on Bobby Macs final. Simashev and But are interesting too. So many scouts have said they like Simashev the most but never mock him higher or rank him as their number 1 D but say he is. I’ve not seen them play really though. Wood I am starting to drink the koolaid a little. i mean he is young, he is skilled, he is big, he is a natural goal scorer, he wants to play C and probably will next year in the NCAA. if next year he plays C, it goes well and as he matures and works on his skating he could be an absolute monster that every team regrets passing on. i def think going outside of the top 10 would be best for him. Cause if he gets rushed to the NHL it could not give him the best chance to become a Tage Thompson level impact guy. im pretty intrigued by him and he impressed me at the u18s cause I’ve been tough on Him all year. He’s won we over. If we took him at 11 I’d be excited.
Angry Goose
Excited about this draft. Always seem to be a couple of high end players that go between 10-16. Hoping Canucks can nab one. Moore, Leonard, Wood, Dvorsky, Pellikka, Reinbacher….really curious how this draft order pans out.

Missing the point. anyway I'm interested to see what kind of wild ride this draft will be. I'm not going to get my hopes up for any player in particular. What I would like to see is us draft with direction not just clutching at whatever player is on the board. We could just go off rankings available online if were gonna do that. Why even have scouts?

As a center, I can see a team reaching in the 10-15 range. As a winger, 15-20. 25 minutes ago, R3aL said: Simashev and But are interesting too. I started drinking the kool-aid after watching some scouting videos. I started chugging the Kool Aid after seeing him at the U18 and the raw potential he has to be a dominant puck control player. I mentioned earlier that I would take Wood's potential over ASP's. I would take him over Reinbacher as well. 1

But ASP's shot is not nearly this dangerous. This is why he went were he did incredibly deceptive release to go along with his puck skills. That was a blast from the past. When i saw Boqvist play in Victoria he looked equally as dangerous and dominant on the ice as Q. Hughes. High IQ, good skating. He never got going in Ottawa. I would love to still get him if we could for cheap

Herberts Vasiljevs
The more I see rankings/mock drafts, the more I'm starting to believe that one of Reinbacher or ASP will be available. It would be a no-brainer for us to select either guy. Edited May 6 by Herberts Vasiljevs
Popular Post Elias Pettersson
Watching Carolina dominate New Jersey, I want Matthew Wood even more. Size matters in the playoffs. The puck is within 3 feet of the wall 80% of the time. Tocchet keeps mentioning wall play. We don’t have enough wall guys. 3
