@R3aL After Bob McKenzie's final rankings came out and Sale was the big faller, I've been going back and watching every scrap of footage I can find, trying trying to make sense of it. I can definitely see the reservations people have; I and others have expressed concerns about Smith and Carlsson - cheating for offense, lacking urgency or interest off the puck - but Sale takes it to another level. I've considered mitigating circumstances for various situations, such as deferring to veteran teammates, picking his spots rather than trying to win battles against obviously stronger players, and it seemed like a point of strategy for the WJC team that Kulich and Sapovaliv would handle most of the defensive/board play and try to break Sale offensively. But as Hammer puts it, the more you're having to make excuses for a player, the more you're probably asking for trouble.

That said, from what I recall of watching him at his own age level (Hlinkas, both '22 and '23 U18s) he was a one-man show for Czechia, looking dominant despite subpar talent around him. You were always a detractor; I'm just curious what is your recollection of the discrepancies in his game across various levels (pro, U18s, U20s)?

He's going to be the one that got away for a lot of teams.

I think we’re guaranteed one of those will be on the board and they’ll immediately become our best prospect since Hughes.

Would you be upset if we swerved for, say, Benson or ASP instead? I don’t know enough to get upset about it but I’ll be disappointed if we don’t get a bigger bodied player considering they’ll almost be guaranteed to be on the board.

Benson I'd be okay with ... ASP not so much. I think he could end up busting and be a so so PP QB and nothing more. I worry about his defending at the top level ... I haven't seen much to support his ability to handle NHL attackers. At least Benson has a very good track record ... and he's there mostly for his playmaking. Call me crazy but I've always been a big believer in defenders being able to defend. :frantic: :P

Gotta take Michkov here. Allvin wants difference makers and I guarantee you'd never see him sprint faster in his life to get to the podium.

Yeah, if Michkov falls all bets are off.  You simply need to take him.  I’m not as sold in Benson in that regard, but I’ll trust the process if we take him.

I say D because seems like a lot of D in our area could be considered BPA.

It’s also nice that they’d have two HOF D as coaches eventually.

Unless a forward really drops I say D.

IMO

Definitely - Bedard, Fantilli, Carlsson, Michkov, Smith, Dvorsky, Leonard, Simashev, Reinbacher, Wood, Barlow, Willander

Hmm, Not Certain - Benson, Danielson, ASP, Perreault, Moore, Yager, Sale, Cristall

Some things to like about some of the "uncertain" players, but there are question marks.

The "definitely" players should all make the NHL and impact their teams.

Honestly, I'd be happy with any of the top 16 in your recent rankings besides ASP. He's my only DND at the moment.

Here's the way I think about it. The following players are all but guaranteed to be taken in the Top 10 (in no particular order):

1.Bedard

2. Fantilli

3. Carlsson

4. Smith

5. Michkov

6. Leonard

I have no idea what will happen after this. Which puts the Canucks in a pretty good position. If the Canucks pass on Benson, I would be extremely disappointed, but not surprised. Aside from that, I wouldn't be pounding the table in disagreement if the Canucks selected any of Moore, Simashev, Reinbacher, Barlow, or Perreault. If the top 6 shakes out the way I've listed above, the Canucks are guaranteed one of those players.

I also like Wood and Danielson, but I think each of these players is just a small notch above.

Really close to my own thoughts as well. Touch more risk on Danielson and Wood I figure but I'd still be pretty excited. I keep hoping Leonard might slip and I would have a hard time passing on Benson too. His vision is high end plus he's got prolific edge work, high end motor and work ethic.

So many players I'd be excited to get in the Canucks org.

I wasn't that big on Woods before, but now I think I'd be very happy knowing he'd be developing and could end up on a line with Petey and Kuz one day.

Reinbacher, same thing, I wasn't keen before, but to have a big, Top 4 RD developing would give hope.

Simashev, Dvorsky, Barlow - I think these guys become very good players, especially in the playoffs.

Completely ignoring the state of our team and the state of the world. Removing all biases from the equation. I think the bpa's at our pick are.

Gabe Perrealt and Eduard Sale when I listen to that clip where Alvin describes his vision of difference maker.

in this draft I think Perreault all day. When Alvin lays out what it lakes to make the next level. The guy who most exemplifies having the IQ and the skill to become our next franchise player. To me it's these 2 who have potential franchise IQ/Skill level fwd at our pick.  The rest of the top fwds I see being great top 6 players but not ppg+ franchise players. Where guys like Brindley Heidt Benson compete really hard it's easy to fall in love with those guys. How much more do they have to give? When I watch Perreault and Sale I feel like they are just scratching the surface of their potential.

On D It's Simashev guys his size who skate like him are unicorns. Where Reinbacher I think is a great pick too and would be thrilled with either Reinbacher I think is closer to his final form (play is more polished) where Simashev has more room for growth as a player. Pick either of them and I will be a very happy Canucks fan. Willander I haven't seen enough of to project but Im more interested than I am with ASP Gulyayev

PWF's can be the difference between competing in the playoffs and a quick exit.

Daniil But, Wood, Honzek and Kasper Halttunen to me But leads the 4 of them by a wide margin with IMO Halttunen being closer to Wood than Wood to But. regardless if we do trade down it would be very wise to get one of these guys as having one of them in your top 6 can really change a team from pretender to contender.

The C's there really only is one here at our pick that I would spend the 11th on and it's Danielson. There's really nobody close Heidt, Ritchie, Stramel would be great trade down options. I'm just not buying Yager or Moore as top 15 players and Dvorsky I must have the wrong tapes on.

Canucks had a sit down dinner with 5 prospects those players being Benson, Willander, Barlow, Woods and Danielsson. Start liking one of these players because I’m thinking it’s probably one of these guys!

Looks like 4 guys they really want that could be there and then the long shot in Benson. Also heard they are interested in Simashev and Michkov, but obviously couldn't take them to dinner.

Probably a pretty good chance Canucks get one of these guys

Michkov

Benson

Willander

Simashev

Wood

Barlow

Danielson
